Lots of "convenient" lags again

I am noticing a fair number of lags that I think are being forced by other players for tactical advantage. This isn't a new problem, but there have been times when the lag cheaters (experienced long-time players, I suspect) lay low for a while. Is Ryan or are the mods aware of this problem, and is there any interest in getting it fixed?

at 5:26 PM, Thursday September 4, 2014 EDT OK, here's his reply:
"I did bring the matter up with Ryan in the past. There's not much he can do to protect his server (which he rents btw) and well, I guess he thinks it's not worth investigating. He's partly right because , even if it happens, it doesn't happen often. "I, as a mod have no way of stopping it, or investigating it. I did my job in bringing it to Ryan's attention. I even did more than I should in keeping notes for months, trying to look for patterns by noting down who benefited the most from a suspect lag. That was over a year ago and lately, I hardly ever see a suspect lag anymore. "Yeah, I had a few suspects back then but not enough proof imo to start banning. I will never ban based on a hunch or when being 'almost sure'. I even got weird lags with very suspect timing myself a few times. My access to the site came back exactly after I died in a winning position. "You can stay paranoid as long as you want. I can't convince you that there is no commonly used lag hack and actually there have been DDOS attacks so I'm not even denying they exist "The reality is though that they probably aren't being used in the low level games that you play. The risk/reward is zero there. If they have been used in the past, it was probably only limited to high stakes tables or tournaments or to screw a competitor without even sitting." Here's what I think I understand him to be saying: 1. J has wondered at times whether there is something to these convenient lags, but has not seen any specific patterns that make the entire situation clear and obvious. Fair enough. 2. J has mentioned something (not clear if he means DDOS attacks, which the good Captain foolishly mentioned in an early post on his thread, or other theoretical intended causes of opponents' lagging) to Ryan, and Ryan has not shown terrific interest in the subject. OK, nothing to do about that, bummer. 3. J has gotten to the point where he has suspected certain players of inducing lag but has not found any smoking guns. I'll take his word for it. 4. Here's where things get weird: both integral and J go from "haven't caught anyone doing it yet" to "thus it never happens AND YOU ARE CRAZY TO BRING IT UP", which is kinda dumb; and then there's the really, really dumb argument "why would anyone cheat on 0 and 100 tables anyway?" -- there's plenty of reasons to cheat there, precisely because you can get away with it. Nobody's watching, right? The lag exploit is annoying as shit, extremely disruptive to game play, and it comes and goes (because smart cheaters lay low for a while -- you don't want to use a good trick so often it gets shut down -- and don't go after powerful victims when they can get plenty of noobs 'cos who listens to them?) It doesn't happen when I'm in 3rd place or lower, it doesn't happen on a map full of noobs. And it doesn't happen only to me, as these threads have shown. I am saying its been pretty busy this month, and it's annoying. |

at 5:36 PM, Thursday September 4, 2014 EDT The other interesting thing I note is J's suggestion that it's not seated players doing the trick -- which is interesting, and which fits with integral's very specific denial in his first post in this thread. I don't wanna play word games and I don't wanna see anybody's heads roll, but I do wish the dumb lag would stop.

I would go farther though. IMO the game is completely compromised as someone has managed to mess with the luck of players as well. The statistics for the number of 1's rolled on bad rolls is too high to be random. Also I didn't say this before but int was PGAing dude last month to 1st and now he is a mod? Laughable. |

at 1:38 AM, Friday September 5, 2014 EDT Just some very few thoughts on this:
1) A DDOS on the server and a lag on all tables is technically possible. I don't think anybody would doubt that. Timing it so that the lagging starts the right moment get 1 guy on 1 of the tables to 1st might be difficult but not impossible. So, having the entire site lag is feasible. 2) Having a single player lag out while the rest continues playing would mean you have to attack his computer (or one of the routers/switches he's using). You'd thus need to know his IP. To do so you need access to the server logs or alike. There ought to be a very limited number of people with that access so identifying an attacker wouldn't be too hard. The only alternative would be a hacked server with undocumented access to the logs. I doubt that exists and stays undetected over years (and several updates) especially on a rented server. 3) Producing a lag on a single table I wouldn't even know how to do that technically. In conclusion I doubt that there is targeted and produced lags. With a sufficient number of games running you will get some people losing 1st by lag every day. It's random - and of course some people try to create the impression that they influence it. P. S. This is certainly not true for my bad luck in rolling ;-) Do not quote me when I start the whining again!!! |

thank you for exposing the pga between dude and myself, your sleuthing skills are second to only NoSpuhforyou. The next time you accuse people of pga, please have some proof either with screenshots or videos, and I will definitely take your 'accusations' seriously. |

at 4:11 AM, Friday September 5, 2014 EDT there was another one just right now, this one seemed smaller in proportion, and seemed different, i'm a little sore that I lost but oh well, and I believe this time other tables were not affected, only two tables of my knowing
