Republicans are a self fulfilling prophecy. They campaign on how bad big government is and when they get elected they prove it.

Monte: "main reason i went = full academic scholarship, and my parents promised they would give me whatever they had saved up for college if i accepted a full ride. $12k BOOM!"

That is a sweet deal. You definitely made the right decision.

I rest my case.

"oh and standardized testing is a perfect example of white privelage"

I still don't understand this argument. I guess my DNA is predisposed to know the answer of certain questions related to math, english, and writing in comparison to that of a Latino or African American.

Please explain.

cool story deadcode, i guess liking coeds and drinking suddenly discredits your understanding of us history? shit how did george bush ever manage to major in history?

thrax the idea is that kids in the inner city aren't exposed to the same culture that say the test makers are. ergo analogies on the SAT that are drawn from the experience of test makers are inherently unfair. so that's why they took out the analogies section of the SAT.

boat : regatta :: car : _____ is inherently unfair because there's no way a black kid would know what the fuck a regatta is let alone how to swim

Thraxle, well not saying I agree with one side or the other of the issue. Many claims in racial bias of standardized testing don't come from some innate differences in starting knowledge of one race or the other, but in cultural references and standards assumed in certain questions that are more common in white culture than in minority cultures.

I think most standardize tests until you get to high level professional certifications do a very poor job at measuring ones knowledge or ability in a subject. The time constraints as well as often very poorly written test question diminish the value of these tests in adequately measuring intelligence, skills and knowledge.

The first time I took an SAT I scored 1280, two months later I retook the test I scored 1410. The main difference was not gaining more actual subject knowledge but about 3 hours of studying the structure and patterns in the exam over the course of that two months. I had far smarter and more intelligent friends that scored worse or about the same as me that just weren't as good at taking standardized tests.
