Tea Party candidates.

Every time I read about them and their policies, I wonder how people can even consider voting for them.
Am I right when I believe that they hate pretty much everything that's not white, male, straight, married, and rich?

Also: what's the point of their obsession with God and religion? I don't think that religion should play a role in politics at all. And I think it's dangerous if politicians from the (still) most powerful country base their decisions on an ancient book.
Do Tea Party candidates still live in the Dark Ages?

But what I really want to know now: Why do so many Americans actually want to vote for those hateful people?
Apart from the fact that I would (most likely) always vote for a democratic candidate, it would be still better to vote for a more moderate repuclican than for a Tea Party candidate.

Comments from Americans (Thrax included ;-)) would be appreciated.

There's probably a gene that makes pedophiles do the things they do too. Sounds like a sickness to me, but you can call it what you want. I'm just trying to be fair for all individuals. The pedophile thinks his behavior is just fine. His brain doesn't know any better. We shouldn't discriminate against him if he wants to get hitched with a 10 year old boy. That would be mean. Why should OUR perception of right or wrong be forced upon him? Why should OUR views matter to how he runs his life? Just because the majority of people think he's disgusting doesn't mean it's bad that he does what he does. He was born that way. It's NATURAL to him.

There's nothing I can do for you if you believe sexuality is a choice. That's incredibly naive and astoundingly ignorant. Talk to a gay person, maybe? Most of them are nice. Hilarious that you remember choosing to be straight. Enlighten us, what's that like?

-You really sound like a piece of shit here, there's obviously a difference between two consenting adults and a child rapist.
-Sexuality isn't as cut and dry as straight/gay, I common model used to explain this to people who can't grasp concepts that aren't right/wrong is the Kinsey scale. Here, I'll link it for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale

Next you're going to tell me we shouldn't masturbate because it's not the biological purpose of our genitals.

I'm just stating the case for something your moral compass disagrees with. My morals disagree with it too, of course, but to a pedophile it's normal. Psychologists will tell you that they reason in a way that makes it seem like it's the right thing to do. No different than a "gay gene". You are simply placing your morals above others, which is fine. You're free to do so.

This doesn't equate to two consenting adults, I know. And I'm not making a case for people to stop being gay, whether it can be controlled or not. My original statement was simply that gay marraige shouldn't be recognized by the government and that any financial advantages accompanied to marraige should be denied. You're talking about changing the definition of an institution that has existed for thousands of years.

By the way, do you have to resort to calling me a piece of shit? Despite all my heated conversations I rarely, if ever, resort to childish name calling. Can we have a simple discourse without slandering each other?

By the way, I'm definitely pro masturbation. I'll march on D.C. if they try to legislate against masturbation.

I said you sounded like a piece of shit because you sounded like a piece of shit. I know you're not one.

I would've said the same thing to someone who told me marrying outside of your race should be illegal.

Everything I was saying was arguing with your original statement, I don't think I've gotten off track.

You're holding onto an antiquated definition of marriage for litterally no reason because it's old. We're talking about civil rights here, way more drastic changes have come in the name of that, I believe.

Adults should be allowed to marry (and reap whatever benefits come with that) whomever they see fit. There's no reason to deny them that liberty.

jpc4p:

There is an operational reason for marriage. Fideleity is required in marriage so that the prospective father can be assured that any child that arises from the marriage is his. In same-sex unions, there is no fatherhood that needs protecting.

Meh, as usual we'll have to agree to disagree. We should have our own talk show one day. We could do it PTI style and take jabs at each other the entire show. It could work???

the PTI would work for political stuff, but not the homosexual convo. jpc takes that shit crazy seriously. i remember about a year ago he and i got into it, and no matter how carefully/hospitably i voiced my thought processes, he would escalate them BAM and after a few back and forths, i think we both realized that UVA on UVA crime is the worst kind, so we just stopped talking about it.

but hey, this thread is about the tea party, so lets stop stretching this homo tangent out. its a great convo to have, but near impossible on the internet, much less face-to-face.
