Tea Party candidates.

Every time I read about them and their policies, I wonder how people can even consider voting for them.
Am I right when I believe that they hate pretty much everything that's not white, male, straight, married, and rich?

Also: what's the point of their obsession with God and religion? I don't think that religion should play a role in politics at all. And I think it's dangerous if politicians from the (still) most powerful country base their decisions on an ancient book.
Do Tea Party candidates still live in the Dark Ages?

But what I really want to know now: Why do so many Americans actually want to vote for those hateful people?
Apart from the fact that I would (most likely) always vote for a democratic candidate, it would be still better to vote for a more moderate repuclican than for a Tea Party candidate.

Comments from Americans (Thrax included ;-)) would be appreciated.

"There is an operational reason for marriage. Fideleity is required in marriage so that the prospective father can be assured that any child that arises from the marriage is his. In same-sex unions, there is no fatherhood that needs protecting."

What about the other needs for marriage - the emotional, sociological, fiscal, and legal ones. Because a girl isn't attracted to men (and thus, highly unlikely to procreate with one), she shouldn't be allowed to marry the person she loves?

Other reasons an operational reason for marriage makes no difference in why homosexuals should have that freedom:

-Marriage does not ensure fidelity.
-Homosexuals can adopt and raise children with just as much assurance (or just as little) that their partner will stick around
-Oh, and letting homosexuals marry will have zero effect on fathers assuring themselves that their kids are theirs.

actually to beat a dead horse, this season's glee had an episode concerning spirituality/atheism/homosexuality that was surprisingly well done. they somehow voiced all viewpoints in heartfelt ways, and didnt make any of them seem neanderthal or detestable.

yes, i watch glee with my wife. fml.

" jpc takes that shit crazy seriously. "

sorry, to me it's way more important then pretending our government is ever going to have fiscal responsibility, whose fault the economic downturn is, etc...

I mean, we're talking about civil rights. I think in a generation or show everyone will be looking at gay rights the way our generation looks at integration "Jeez, I can't believe people were so intollerant back then."

To be clear, I know it's just my opinion that I think it's more important - not saying everyone else should feel the same.

yeah monte, I saw that episode and liked it too.

Love is love. People should accept that.

And Rob, Im sorry I called you names, but it's really really offensive to me when the whole comparing homosexuality to beastiality or pedophilia arguement comes out (for example: Rick Santorum). I really sickens me.

I used to watch Glee but the Biggest Loser comes on Tuesday nights so it gets trumped. I think the two female leads on Glee are hot. That magazine cover photo was awesome...
