America's abundance was created not by public sacrifices to the common good, but by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own personal interests and the making of their own private fortunes. They did not starve the people to pay for America's industrialization. They gave the people better jobs, higher wages, and cheaper goods with every new machine they invented, with every scientific discovery or technological advance -- and thus the whole country was moving forward and profiting, not suffering, every step of the way.

More statistics to back up why the American capitalist way of living is wrong and only benefits the top 1% of people:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gini_Coefficient_World_CIA_Report_2009.png
The GINI coefficient is a measurement (taken by the UN) which measures income inequality in a given country. Notice that we are on par with China, Argentina, Madagascar, and Mexico. Most post-industrial nations have a score from the mid to low twenties to the low thirties. The United States' score is 46.9 which is among the highest in the post-industrial world.

Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index

The HDI (another United Nations statistic) basically measures the quality of life in a given country. The United States currently ranks 13th behind Norway, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Japan and Luxembourg. Oh I really wonder why all those countries with numerous social programs (many, many, many more in number and expanse than the US) rank higher than the United States? Maybe it's because Socialism results in a better quality of life for all of its citizens?

Speaking of Norway, they are a prime example of policies I believe should be implemented in America. They have high taxes, lots of social programs (like universal healthcare, welfare, etc.) and yet I don't see their country turning into a shithole. Surprise surprise, not everyone is a lazy welfare queen!

No, I think if you work hard you INCREASE your chances of being successful.

If you don't try hard, you decrease your chances.

If your parents care enough to spend time instilling values........helping with homework........keeping you out of trouble........you chances VASTLY increase.

Everything has probability, but I'll take my chances on working hard and getting it myself, rather than waiting for someone to give it to me.
