Hey guys, some of you might remember rifty's Euro 2008 competition and how fun it was so I thought I'd do one for the World Cup, if people are interested. All credit goes to rifty for making up the idea. The concept is simple, you guess the results of each game in the world cup and people compete to get first on the leaderboard and to get as many correct predictions as possible.

The points work out as, 5 for a correct result, 10 for the correct score. The second round and quarter final games will be worth 7 and 14, the semis will be 8 and 16 and the final 10 and 20. All you have to do to is post your predictions.

The fixtures in the next three days are as follows:

June 11th:

South Africa v Mexico
Uruguay v France

June 12th:

South Korea v Greece
Argentina v Nigeria
England v U.S.A

June 13th:

Algeria v Slovenia
Serbia v Ghana
Germany v Australia

Have fun playing :)

Congrats to Marius who has scored the highest day in the competition (from my knowledge) of 30 points! The day after tomorrow the knockout stages start and this is where the points can make you or break you. Speaking of which I'm going to open a debate on how people want to score games if it goes into extra time and penalties. Do people want it scored just on the 90 minutes, or 90 minutes and extra time, or in some other way entirely? Also should penalties be part of the scoring system?

Thanks for that Vizzle :) Lost quite a few of the predictions as I was without internet for a while :P
Anyhow, time to ante up:

North Korea 0v2 Ivory Coast
Portugal 2v1 Brazil
Chile 1v3 Spain
Switzerland 2v0 Honduras

In the knock outs, i'm unsure how it would be best solved.. Perhaps if you predict a draw, you need to also predict the outcome of the extra time and/or penalties(just who wins it). The scoring should perhaps give you a little less points if you guess the correct score(draw) but miss the outcome of ET+Penalties, and a little more than a normal correct score if you predict both score and outcome after ET and penalties. Just my thoughts, anyhow :)

Hmm yeah this is what I was asking about. I think it should be if you guess who advances correctly, you get 5 points (or 7... whatever you said). And if you guess the score correctly you get 10 (14).

For example. The U.S. will beat Ghana in PK's after the score remains 2-2 following extra time.

If someone guesses "USA (2) vs Ghana (1)", they would get 7 points. If they guess "USA Advance on PKs" they would get 14 points.
If they guess "Ghana advances on PKs" they would get 7 points.

Any other ideas?

I think we should stick to 90 minutes only..

Cuz if u give a bonus for guessing who's winning after the OT/penalties then people will go for draws more to get the bonus..
