Open discussion on cheating and the punishment deserved for violations

I'm about to logoff for the night, so I'll read the responses in the a.m.

Some people here think the rules are too soft toward cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people here think I'm too hard on cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people think the site is not moderateble (I catch flack from these people).

Point is that I know I can't please everyone, so I'd like to know what the community thinks about cheating and how it should be dealt with. I know, I know, a new IP can easily be obtained. I know, I know, alt accounts can be created. However, based on the tools I have been given, what would YOU do to moderate this site if given the chance?

Let's keep our responses above a 5th grade reading level if possible.

And if at all possible, please post from your main account (if it hasn't been banned already). I'd like to know who is speaking without having to access my IP spreadsheet FFS.

Thrax

First off, stop being so Hostile to Alex. While his approach may be wrong (in that he doesn't get the social aspect of the game), he's dead on target in some respects. In the stated example of trucing with leek, how is that different from "game to game favors"? I don't have an opinion there, as it's a bit over my curreent headspace, but it would be interesting to see discussed.

That being said, it is clear based on what is being talked about here that shared accounts, ALL shared accounts, should be axed. Immediately, and with no warning. As for alts, I myself have no problem with alts (hell, I have one, though I hardly ever use it)but I think that alts that are also members should be restricted. Which is to say, I am a member on my main, I am not allowed to have an alt that is also a member.

I also agree that there should be more moderation, and that mods should have the ability to make their punishements stick. I was looking at -chat -play and -post reasoning, and the amount of times I see someone getting dinged for a week, then getting it removed the next day is mindboggling. And it's usually by a different mod. That has to stop... mods need to back each other up, or there's no point.

I like the idea of anonymous mods, but I also know that that will only last for so long. Many folks here have a distinct posting or chat style. Still, something to be looked into, imo.

IP's can be obtained, but it is a hassle. If an IP ban goes into effect, then it should be persued and continued. If there is a player with an IP ban, and they show up again, they should instantly be IP banned again, repeat as necessary.

But like others have said, we can only suggest so much, and in the end the ONLY way to fix anything is for Ryan to step in and OBJECTIVELY assist in fixing the issues. But that appears to be highly unlikely.

ps- evidence of nuking should =permaban of any and all related accounts. No question, no appeal.

Nothing really more too add, inty and madhat said it all. My little-needed opinion is that we should just do a sort of voting for respectable kdice mods. Its not how Thrax mods, its that there aren't enough of him, it seems.

Meh, maybe not. Go figure :p

If player is proven cheating have an icon next to their avatar similar to the trophies except it should say "CHEATER" on it. Pretty basic, lets everyone know it and they can then avoid playing with them.

It's different because he doesn't truce the same person all the time?

in the leek example, if it benefits me more to utterly destroy leek, i will utterly destroy leek.

but if it benefits me to have him guilted into doing my bidding for the rest of the game, ill leave his scrawny ass alive.

the example with leek is different because i didnt say leek and i truce consistantly. i said that leek likes to truce his neighbors, so i can use that to my advantage.

I think (Cue Monte saying: STFU XC) that -play for 30 days for a first offence, then permaban is good. Go after main accounts if you can.
