Open discussion on cheating and the punishment deserved for violations

I'm about to logoff for the night, so I'll read the responses in the a.m.

Some people here think the rules are too soft toward cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people here think I'm too hard on cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people think the site is not moderateble (I catch flack from these people).

Point is that I know I can't please everyone, so I'd like to know what the community thinks about cheating and how it should be dealt with. I know, I know, a new IP can easily be obtained. I know, I know, alt accounts can be created. However, based on the tools I have been given, what would YOU do to moderate this site if given the chance?

Let's keep our responses above a 5th grade reading level if possible.

And if at all possible, please post from your main account (if it hasn't been banned already). I'd like to know who is speaking without having to access my IP spreadsheet FFS.

From what i understand thrax wants our input for cheat-modding. Although i do think it would help the site alot if accounts that clearly and deliberately misbehave would be removed for good not to bother folks again.

@alts: 0 tolerance policy on his behaviour. any modable offense of an alt linked to a single main should count as one warning.

@shared accounts: punish the correlating profiting mains and ban the account without warning if obviously shared. have an auto suspend if the account exceeds a certain different-ips/login ratio (keep in mind that people play from work and home too and some carriers change IP's on a daily basis by default)

@alex: your so far of the chart you better read this thread twice again before you post anything.

Alts are horrible. Alts have been used to carry out the douchebaggery of mains ever since I've been here. Case in point, Jesse uses a variety of alts to PGE his "competition" when he went for gold this last time. Accounts like THE NIGGLER are used to PGE whoever that shared group of players wants to see not win a month. Alts are bad in a lot of ways. They are abused and used to do very unfair things.

I think I will get the Ryan seal of approval to ban mains for the deeds of an alt. (by seal of approval I mean I'll e-mail him this idea and he won't respond and that means the answer isn't no)

Any viable objections? I'm pretty sure the majority of people on this site will agree with banning mains due to alts transgressions.
