I'm about to logoff for the night, so I'll read the responses in the a.m.
Some people here think the rules are too soft toward cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people here think I'm too hard on cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people think the site is not moderateble (I catch flack from these people). Point is that I know I can't please everyone, so I'd like to know what the community thinks about cheating and how it should be dealt with. I know, I know, a new IP can easily be obtained. I know, I know, alt accounts can be created. However, based on the tools I have been given, what would YOU do to moderate this site if given the chance? Let's keep our responses above a 5th grade reading level if possible. And if at all possible, please post from your main account (if it hasn't been banned already). I'd like to know who is speaking without having to access my IP spreadsheet FFS. Thrax |

at 1:40 AM, Monday March 15, 2010 EDT I know my opinion doesn't matter much, but maybe a 1 warning then IP ban would send a message more than the current system.
I have no hope or aspirations of the top 10 or even top 25, but I like to play the game for fun and enjoy it, and the cheaters ruin that. I understand the problems with moderation and Ryan not giving a damn, but something needs to be done. I really don't like to get into the middle of it, but the fact that these cheaters are allowed to run around the game almost freely is supremely annoying. I have to tip-toe around certain people at the 500 tables in order to ensure a fair game. That's not the way the game should be. |

at 2:47 AM, Monday March 15, 2010 EDT I played very actively in Jan and Feb but PGAers quickly turned me off. I quickly realized getting a fair 2k was hard and 5k was next to impossible.
A fair solution would be to tighten up the RC algorithm (lower the trigger threshold). Make it look for IPs and/or players that frequently play with each other and score/rank high with each other. This would make the banning and enforcement of rules purely objective since it is based upon a set of rules. This works at higher levels because if you get a table of top 25 players, they will be of equal skill and thus the distribution of points should fall within a statistical bounds. If you are playing fairly, this algorithm would not preclude you from playing with your friends. Ryan's apathy is the ultimate reason this is happening. This website is the biggest waste of programming talent I have seen in a while. |

thrax, as far as i know your modding actions have always been reasonable. it wouldnt hurt if you tighten your grip on the banhammer. considering alts, i want to point out that an account itself cant break rules. it is always the person playing it. therefore banning mains if alts do shit is absolutely justified. |

at 6:06 AM, Monday March 15, 2010 EDT Thrax the simple fact here is that you need more mods to help you properly run this site. Vermont is AWOL and TCS and especially HH lack the ability to moderate this site correctly judging from past actions. Until this happens I can't see how you can possibly enforce harsher restrictions on players by yourself.
@ AlexBallDrop I don't know how to say this and keep it civil so I'm just going to say that your ideas lack common sense and show lack of understanding of the game. This is a social game as well as a strategy game and anyone else who thinks otherwise obviously doesn't understand how the game works. The joy of this game and the reason why I and so many enjoy it is that you can build relationships with other players, learn who to truce in-game, learn who to be nice to and who to be aggressive against. You say it's favourtism to not hit players you know? I would much rather trust a player I know who understands that I am playing nice and moving away from him in the game. If I did this kind of move with an unknown player 9 times out of ten that player would attack you. So explain to me how trusting players I know who can play properly over players I don't know is cheating? @ Thrax the -30 days and then lifetime ban is a good idea plus I think if someone violates the rules on an alt this should count towards their main too. Personally, I don't see much wrong with alts as long as they stay as one person and are not shared but I can understand your reasons for wanting to be rid of them. 'Ryan's apathy is the ultimate reason this is happening. This website is the biggest waste of programming talent I have seen in a while' This is pretty much the root of all evil on this site and unless Ryan starts paying attention again there is not much Thrax or anyone else can do to efficiently moderate the site.
