Open discussion on cheating and the punishment deserved for violations

I'm about to logoff for the night, so I'll read the responses in the a.m.

Some people here think the rules are too soft toward cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people here think I'm too hard on cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people think the site is not moderateble (I catch flack from these people).

Point is that I know I can't please everyone, so I'd like to know what the community thinks about cheating and how it should be dealt with. I know, I know, a new IP can easily be obtained. I know, I know, alt accounts can be created. However, based on the tools I have been given, what would YOU do to moderate this site if given the chance?

Let's keep our responses above a 5th grade reading level if possible.

And if at all possible, please post from your main account (if it hasn't been banned already). I'd like to know who is speaking without having to access my IP spreadsheet FFS.

Thrax

Jesus, your spewing it faster than i can respond to it. Have you seen how much harder it makes it to start a table when 2 people are RC'd? Do you have any idea how difficult it would be if the top 25 were effectively RC'd from sitting with each other? Im surprised that im even dignifying this idea with a response, cause it is unbelievably stupid.

"There are PLENTY of people with 5k+ points NOT in the top 25"
but not many players hovering around 5-10k are willing to risk a 5k game (even if everyone playing is fair) and not that many people willing to play a 5k even without the restriction you propose are online at once. Ask someone how long it takes to get 5k going. Or just watch how long it takes. Putting in an additional restriction on who can play 5k would only make that slower.

Knowing people's play styles basically is that if you make a move, you know how the people you are playing with will react. For example, if you're playing with Leek and you move away from him and allow him an easy connect in round 1, he'll more than likely help you out later in the game. Certain other players are very aggressive or very conservative. Just things like that.

Alex your ideas are bad, lets just stop that line of thinking right there.

They really are bad.

More bans, not less. Less evidence more based on feel. This goes for Thraxle and Vermont only. The other mods know fuckall about the game and should stick to banning for foul language and avatars like the pathetic prudes they are.

Thrax, first lurk, you see something that is troublesome BOOM banhammers for a week for alts and mains and if they bitch, let them fucking bitch. The elite do not keep the game running, and there are plenty of 0 and 100 tables that the unwashed masses will be able to find fair games more often then not. Stop playing softball with us fucktards that think we are what make this site go. Punish the wicked and if a few crybaby enablers get caught up in the mess so be it.

Have any other ideas Pat? Don't shoot down ideas without providing some of your own.

Or are you possibly mad because this would eliminate the advantage you have being friends with so many of the top 25? Let's here some responses from people NOT in the top 25.

Then perhaps we can add some 1k or 3k tables?

This can still exist, again not sure what it has to do with my suggestion.

it makes this statement: "Some of you may argue this is a social game and you want to play with your friend blah blah blah. If you want to talk, go on msn or aim or pick up the phone. If the reason is you want to PLAY with your friend then that is exactly what is leading to these pre-game alliances and game-to-game favors!!! " far less valid than you thought it was.

I know but here I was just talking about top 25, 26 and below can do what they want.

Also came up with better idea.

top 25 can't sit with each other.

Exception: if players have 50k + they can sit with eachother AND those outside of top 25 at 5k tables ONLY because at this point they are after eachothers points anyway so there is little point to pga. Unless of course they team up on the non top25 players, but this of course would be moderated and dealt with.
