Okay, so I wanted to basically write this in hopes the right people would read it, take it serious and maybe do something about the issues.
The problem with this game is the design.. it doesnt know if its a "social networking site" or a "gaming site". For example, the so called "top" players will tell you a key to success is the chat box. Being talkative and making "friends" is a must to be top 100 in the month and that seems wrong on so many levels. Not only that, but it leads to PGAs and makes new players feel alienated by these so called "virtual friends". People stop playing this game because of the politics that go along with it and the fact it is nearly impossible to crack the top 100 unless you have a teammate. That shouldn't be the case in what is supposed to be a 1 man for themselves game. The chatbox also leads to "vflags", which have tons and tons of issues. From people abusing vflagging, to backstabbing after being left alone. Even the person who accepts or denies the vflag is in trouble many times because some people view this as a "truce/alliance". In short, the designers of this game need to figure out if they want to run a "game" site or a "social networking" site. If they choose the ladder, fine.. myself along with MANY MANY people will quit for good. Im here to play a game and win if possible, not to make "cyber friends" or "talk my way to 1st/2nd place". If I want to chat, Ill log onto MSN or AIM, join a chat room or whatever.. but the mix of both gaming and chat doesnt mix, it just creates cheating and problems. I doubt this post will change anything, but I had to say something because after giving up KDice for a while and recently coming back to see if things changed I have found its only gotten worse, and the few names I used to recognize and respect for playing the game and not playing the chatbox are now gone and been gone for months. This is a dying site, and its a shame because in principal you had such a great idea/game in mind. But the players were allowed to ruin it because not enough policing when the chat box was allowed. Get rid of the chat box, or KDice will be gone in the very near future...I guarantee. Don't believe me? Ask a mod.. or go check a website that will tell you how much traffic this site gets.. compare now to just a year ago.. or a year ago to 2 years ago... it's been a steady decline and is only getting worse. Soon the sponsors go, than the site goes.. ..Ill be disappointed if it happens, but won't be that upset because they allowed it to happen themselves without trying to fix the issue. |

at 11:10 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST Yes, flagging rd 1 is a skill lol... for a pussy maybe?!
Trucing when you know its going to be an uphill fight is a skill? lol.. again.. for a pussy maybe?! Like I said.. I didnt expect many of the "normal" users to agree.. but the fact is there is more people who feel like me than dont.. the exception is while you and the "hardcore" players control the forums (and chat box) .. most new players or fed up players dont post and simply disappear for good. I figured Id give it a go and hope something would strike a cord with the right person (not worried about how the players who abuse what Im talking about feel). If its a game.. let it be determined on the playing field.. NOT A CHAT BOX! I have a question.. IF YOU ARE SO GOOD AT THE GAME, WHY NOT WIN IT WITHOUT KISSING ASS OR MAKING "FRIENDS" TO HELP YOU WIN? GOTTA HAVE SOME1 HOLD YOUR HAND? |

at 11:13 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST PS: to the person who posted the website showing the unique users.. thank you for proving yourself a complete idiot!
January 2010 is the only month it has had a major upswing.. probably because ppl such as myself came back in hopes a new year would bring a new version... notice how since Feb 2009 the user numbers have collapsed? Soon your "virtual friends" will have to chat you on a different site.. cause they wont run this without sponsorship dollars.. why do you think there pimpin' the $5 membership and bonus pts now?? THEY NEED CASH BECAUSE THE USERS ARE GOING BYE BYE AND THE SPONSORSHIP DOLLARS ARE GOING BYE BYE WITH THEM!!! WAKE UP !!! |

War has alliances KDice has alliances There are a lot of Risk-like games on the internet that don't have a chat box. Go play one if this sucks so bad. |

at 11:16 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST well it seems you have slipped down a slope into concluding that there is no skill at the top tables, just salesmanship.
i think you reached the correct conclusion... then you got frustrated at it, and went hyperbolic on all logic. any player at the top tables would be highly offended at you for saying they have no skill. i would hazard a guess that if someone were to create a kdice skills test (which would be awesome, btw), that over 90 of the top 100 would get 100% correct (no doubt, including yourself if you were in the top 100). kdice DID exist for a few months in a state closer to your utopia, where everyone just plays for themselves without any background relationships. but after a couple months went by, a lot of people came to the same conclusion: their opponents were fickle, just like themselves. so lets define 'fickle': making a decision based not on pure rng-strategy, but on metagame strategy. examples: 1) someone tells me in chatbox that i suck at kdice and dont have a clue. reaction: i will attack that person, even though strategy says i shouldnt. 2) if i tell a funny joke while someone has a big stack pointed at me, theres a slightly better chance that he wont wreck me, but wreck someone else, because he likes my style. 3) i keep records on who is trustworthy and upstanding. then i know who i like to play with. i then alter my strategy based on whether my neighbor(s) are a part of this group or not. i see these all as examples as when the "correct" strategy is thrown out the window, and God-knows-what-strategy is substituted in. for the record, i believe that you yourself fall into category #3. sorry this is getting long, so i will save the rest of my thoughts for further discussion. |

at 11:28 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST TFM, I completely agree with what you said.
Exactly my point.. the upper tables have no skill other than they are the best at making friends on the internet.. GOD made 2 types of ppl I guess... 1. You can make friends in real life or 2. You can make friends online I fall into the 1st group, while the top 100 naturally falls into group 2.. but hey, what was I expecting with the time involved needed to actually win a top 100 spot lol.. nerds will be nerds I suppose. |

this was NOT my point. i said this was your hyperbolic logic. i said that the top tables already have all the skill that is needed to destroy dicewars on a regular basis. they know when to roll and when not to roll. its just that the next logical step in the evolution of kdice was for a few players to realize that they could use the chatbox as a tool to gain an edge against their competition. and these players who started abusing the chatbox werent even doing it to make friends. they were doing it to exploit their competition so that they could milk more points from them. by kissing ass and telling jokes and pretending to be sociable, they gained many more points in less games, and were able to get top 10 more consistently. in most cases, they didnt make more friends. the chatbox isnt a way to make friends, its a way to manipulate your enemies into doing what you want them to do. fuck internet friendship, this is a tool in a war. so, yes, salesmanship gives you an edge. i am NOT saying that top 100 is 100% salesmanship and 0% skill. i am saying taht top 100 is at least 10% salesmanship and 99% skill. the players that consistenly finish high are usually 90% salesmanship and 99% skill. |

at 11:36 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST i have found that people who use the chatbox solely for social interaction and truly making friends are not very successful in kdice unless they play a ton of games on the middle tables.
