Cowardice, gutlessness, and "oh i flag".

So, it's been my displeasure to witness despicable acts of cowardice on kdice so frequently that I can nearly guarantee you'll see it every game. The specific act? The "oh I flag to you" message.

Why do I think this is a problem? I'll attempt to explain it to you pea-brained peons.

What happens when someone calls "oh I flag" when the game is say 3 or 4 rounds in? It causes the person who they flagged to, obviously the one with a slight lead on everyone else, to change their focus to other players on the board. Nothing wrong with that you say... WRONG! The person who called the "oh I flag" is now being ignored and free to sit there like a little sissy and watch as the leader takes out everyone else.

He's the smart one, you say. Well, he's increased his position in the game, that's for sure, but as for smart? No, definitely not. He's taking advantage of a situation to the ultimate detriment of everyone else. So, you say, he's still getting a better position so he has to be smart? You could argue this point for a while, but what it really comes down to is enjoyment & cowardice, vs a few points. The flagger is not smart, he's just making the game less enjoyable for everyone else and being a coward. Smart or not, well it can't really be proved... but I'll always counter that argument with the fact that he may be smart, but he's a pathetic coward.

It's part of the game, you say. It's not part of the game. It's not written in the rules, it's not a guideline, it's not kosher. The game is about taking territories and fighting until there is a victor and only a couple of challengers left. Those challengers were the ones who fought well, held their territory, and crushed their opposition to hold 2nd or 3rd. The ones who DO NOT deserve 2nd or 3rd are the ones who called "oh i flag" and then sat there, not earning their position.

But flags are part of the game, you say... again. Yes, flags are, when you click that little button. Calling a "flag" in chat is NOT flagging, it's trucing. If you want to flag, click the flag and accept your position. Calling a "flag" (aka a truce) is meant to boost your position in the game, not accept defeat.

In real life you need allies. True. This is not real life... this is a game that is meant to be fun. Calling these bullcrap flags is EXACTLY the same as saying "lets truce", but for some reason nobody sees that. I've seen quite a few people rage up about "trucing", but there's too many morons playing who don't consider "oh i flag" the same as a truce. It is exactly the same.

Hopefully that has got you thinking. I have a particular hatred for this "oh I flag" crap because I play this game for a bit of friendly competition, and to pit my strategies against the opposition. I also watch sport on TV because it has good competition, not because I want to see one side, 5 minutes in after being scored against, say "oh we flag".

What I want you all to do is not accept "oh i flag" anymore. I want to drive this culture out of KDice, so that we can have some good competitive games. I accept actual flags when I'm winning, for sure. I will never accept "flags".

The dice, the territories, the strategy and the competition are what KDice is all about. The cowardly written "flags" are not.

Think about it.

"But I almost guarentee you will lose..."

There are players who win quite often by playing without v-flagging.

Points are another story. At the higher tables v-flagging is a necessary evil. Everyone does it. It's quite pathetic to watch. It's no fun. Not something I want to be a part of. Why should I play at tables where I have to throw away my dignity to win.

If I get over 500 points, I usually just lose at a higher table so I can get back down to where the tables are fun.

Life is about fun. If you think v-flagging is fun, I feel sorry for you.

Diplomacy is one thing. Constantly being someone's no-battle bitch (well said MrDolomite) is another thing.

I honestly think the growth of the site is being limited by such play. Traffic is down from last year (alexa.com). I've told friends about the site and they usually play for a short time and then leave. The biggest complaint is that there is too much collusion between players. V-flagging gives that impression. (true or not). It gives a basic impression of unfairness to new players.

Whatever is said, people will still continue to play the game in whatever way pleases them. If you like being a pussy... please continue to play as one ;)

people. people. people.

im sick and tired of holier-than-thou anti-vflaggers taking over the forum.

but, seriously, all of you need to take a critical look at yourselves in the mirror. next time you get in an ingame situation where you are the lucky early-stacker, and your slightly smaller neighbor says, "nice 1st" or "no worries here" or, god forbid, "i vflag"... lets see what you do. yeah, im calling you out.

here is how you will respond in the forums:
holierthanthouantivflaggingnoob: "i would refuse his vflag, and kill off his small stacks and take the dom that is rightfully mine, OF COURSE!!!!"

here is how you will respond in the actual game: 1) you do what you claim you would do, thus leaving you weak and vulnerable to the rest of the table, you end a higher-than-normal-dom 3rd place or so. (golf clap). 2) you realize that if you just respect this guys ninja flag, that he will definitely get you 1st. so you respect it, and hope everyone focuses on how lame the vflagger was, and how lame the game has become because of vflags, all the while secretly hoping that no one notices that it is YOU who are the one encouraging vflag play by respecting the ninja vflag.

all im sayin is, get off yer highhorses.

it reminds me of one time i tried to prove a point to someone on this site concerning the holier-than-thou bandwagon against trading game-to-game favors. i was in a game with this dude, and got the lucky start and was headed for a clear easy victory. to drive home my point, i obliterated everyone else on the map except for him, and forced him to get 2nd. he had to realize that it was his own choice to not flag and receive a 2nd that he clearly didnt deserve, but now he knew that he couldnt just flame off on people who receive favors from others in kdice, because in all honesty it is nearly impossible to turn down a favor.

anyways, keep it real folks.

Probably the most annoying thing about vflags is that people are scared to fight a first that looks stronger but might not actually be stronger. It's especially annoying when I attack the first placed person and then everyone flags to him, completely oblivious to the fact that he hasnt won anything yet.

I would be lying if I said I don't vflag and lying if I said I don't accept vflags. The hypocrisy is the best part.

Jimmycolorado clearly has different goals in the game than I do. My goal is to maximize my score given the situation I'm in, given both luck and my decisions. Sometimes flagging early is a score maximizing move, so i'll do it.

vflagging is NOT flagging.

Call it what it is moron... a cowardly truce.

You can use that tactic if you want, but you're a coward and a liar, and I, and many others, will not respect your "flag".
