does kdice need more punishment from mods?

this is a serious discussion.

i check out kdice.com/advisorLog about once a week, and have been pleased to see how active the xsketch mod Lei is in punishing cheating over in xsketch land. fairly frequently you will see an entire page of advisorLog filled with him catching people who write answers, who share answers over instant messaging, or people who abuse the chatbox or username choice. and he bans the annoying username people several times in a row as soon as they create new alts. i applaud this effort. i havent been to xsketch recently, but im sure Lei's vigor has a positive influence on the community.

i played a few days of gpokr this month, and was pleased to see that the community there also realizes the punishment of cheating. when i used to play a long time ago, it was commonplace to transfer winnings between alt accounts. apparently that has now been deemed a punishable offense (makes sense), and people only transfer winnings as discretely as possible because they know they will lose all of the winnings if a mod catches them doing it.

what im concerned with in kdice is that the mods dont (or arent allowed to) punish pga. i guess the reasoning is that it's too much of a grey area defining when play is pga and when it isnt. in my experience with kdice recently, the only people being punished are the chatbox abusers / forum abusers / username abusers. if you look at advisorLog, xsketch has far more moderation than kdice, as does gpokr. but arent there more kdice players than gpokr and xsketch combined? perhaps there are less kdice cheaters, maybe thats it.

anyways, it would be nice to see some new mods (stfu johnson, i dont want to be a mod), who commit more energy to punishing cheating in kdice, not just racism/language/forum idiocy. i really appreciate the current mods, i.e. skrum, who gives us pro bono all these intriguing statistical analyses. grunvagr has all but disappeared. so now it seems Ryan is the only one holding down the fort in kdice. and its tough for him to do that when he's got 3 communities continuously bitching at him every time he tries to implement a positive change in his code. (i couldnt believe how many gpokr players were bitching about some phantom ante bug, instead of constructively helping explain why it was happening and how to fix it.)

anyways, i feel we need more active mods here in kdice, and i feel they should be given the power to punish clear and admitted pgas. i believe there are some unbiased and fair people in the community who would do a good job.

thoughts?
trolls?

as a former mod ill say that kdice is MUCH harder to moderate than xsketch and takes a lot more time/passion/ and attention to detail. Also, kdicers are much more abusive and aggressive about lobbying to ryan and other mods than xsketchers. No one will ever be passionate enough and unbiased enough to fairly judge this game except ryan and as much as it sucks its his sole judgement on whos cheating and what the punishment is. Everyone needs to give up. NO monte you wont be a mod. You have a higher chance of being banned than being made a mod or talking ryan into giving someone the position you want. As for you vermont, get over yourself, you weren't around the 3 months i was a mod and came back a month later. I have no prior history with you and dont know why you come to my tables lobbying for people to kill me on behalf of what you call me as being an "abusive moderator."
really, in all due respect to you and your syrup state, fuck off

fiero if for on if ryan can do it surely he can find somebody else that is capable of modding. and second no shit no mod is gonna be perfect mistakes will happen thats why you need three or four mods that way they can be constantly keeping each other in check

i think you dont quite understand. in xsketch, players can write the words on the screen instead of drawing it...and get caught by the xsketch mod. or, if 2 players keep guesing each other's word before the picture is drawn, clearly they're cheating. The cheating in kdice is much more difficult to pinpoint and can be argued. That's why its ryan's job...even HE has said it's HIS job.

fiero i do get it ive played all three of ryans games ive seen the cheating in all three. and i know ryan thinks is soley his job. But he is only one man he is not omnipresent no matter how hard he tries he wont be able to even make a dent. For example the most blatant PGA in the upper tables still hasnt been caught im reluctant to name names but im sure we all know who im talking about. The fact that this pga hasnt even been RCed yet tells me that there is absolutely no way that ryan and his programming are not enough to do the job. bottum line is if ryan wants to accomplish his goal he needs to find somebody (preferably 2 or 3 somebodies) that know the game well and that he feel he can trust

i think we dont need that. the game is fun as it is. even with a few cheaters around. i guess about 99% of all games are played fair. all these accusations that this nobody PGAs with somebody are not true most of the time. people get angry when they lose and once they are angry they start posting shit in the forum or freak out in chat. unfortunately in every game of kdice there is 1 guy who gets the fucking 7th.

we dont need PGA hunting mods. we need something to console the people who lose, so they dont get angry and freak out. suggestions in that direction have been made, like medals for aggressive play.

shev i agree and disagree with you. it is true that the true pga problem is not as rampant as many believe it is. However i would say about 1 in 2 2k games has some favor that is given from one player to another that changes places (be it somebody goes from 2nd to 1st because of it or from 7th to 5th). and there is absolutely no ingame reason for this favor. now if you say that have of these "favors" are incedental and completely unintended, that leave 1 in 4 games at the upper level tables that there is play that Ryan finds to be very unfavorable.

this is all very stupid. there is way too much emphasis on the points competition in general. any self respecting game of skill would use a ratings system to ballpark estimate the ABILITY of the players and would let them sit at private and protected tables with their friends for the most enjoyable playing system and/or search for random people to play against of a certain ABILITY, not how many points they've earned in the first 6 days of the new month or whatever.

99.99% of gripes about kdice come from having to play against assholes, and that is because the simple action has never been taken to let people choose who they play with. if this was a board game in real life we'd never be having the argument over whether you had to go play in a room full of strangers or go sit around the dinner table with 6 of your friends and not invite the guy who plays like a dick. however, because of the retarded obsession with ranking everybody and collecting "diamonds" next to our name we have this point system penalizing players more for playing at higher tables and losing, or we've had an elo system where you can lose 100 rating pts in a single unlucky game (ridiculous), and it's deemed unfair to let somebody play with their friends and force them to sit with people they dont know and/or dont like.

honestly i can't stand it. i hate losing 100 pts when my score is < 1000 because i know i'm that much closer to being stuck in the human cesspool that is the 0 tables, whereas if i lose 1000 pts to go from 3900 to 2900 i honestly dont care because i still get to play with people who are civil and intelligent. what i'd like to do is ONLY play with people who are civil and intelligent, regardless of what my "number of diamonds is" or whatever we call it.

I believe there are quite a few people who would fit into this category

fiero: "you weren't around the 3 months i was a mod"

There was only one month I didn't play a game (as Vermont,) and even that certainly doesn't imply I wasn't around during that month, let alone three.

Maybe the only people who are "around" in your world are those who get medals? lol

At least my post got you to attempt to make a reasonable response. Sure beats the eloquent "stfu" you gave in your first.

And even if I wasn't "around" at all for three entire months, referring to you as the worst mod is certainly reasonable since the history is all in the forum, and you (I believe) are the only mod that behaved so poorly that Ryan had to strip powers.
