Top Player Culture Change

Things have dramatically improved this year for the culture of the top players. The improvement is these players being more interested in playing a good game than favoring their friends to get a higher rank.

However there are still a few top players around that get ahead by favoring each other. I'm surprised they're still able to get away with this. I see it as lame. Most other players do to. Yet they are still able to get away with it.

It's important for the better players to look down on this type of play because I can't monitor every game. Things need to change at the top tables. To players should feel confident in pointing out this cheap style of playing and acting accordingly.

I'd like people to post here if they're interested in helping to change the culture at the top tables. The goal for the culture at the top is to respect a good game and see players who need extra help to win as poorer players.

thrax dont be naive about the past couple of months. most top players will agree that there has been a lame murti/nex pga going on for several months now. some (including myself) have also said that others were involved, but im not going to name names here or now.

Ryan would it be possible to have a rating visible next to your avatar, similar to how you can see players current rank before you choose to sit with them?

Yes but I hope things can change before I get around to implementing something like that (or simply testing it to see if its beneficial).

Monte,

The problem with the rating system is that it affects like 1% of kdice. To be honest, I have always sat with WHOEVER chooses to sit with me. So have you. I don't think a rating system benefits us at all, unless I'm missing the point of having younger less experienced kdicers join the high tables, but then they wouldn't really be able to sit with anyone, because everyone is going to have a pretty low rating...

"And Thrax: "This game DOES REQUIRE relationships to be made in some form". This should be clarified. Do not take your relationships between games. Its fine to be friends, but play the game as a single entity regardless of relationships. Otherwise it's clearly unfair play."

I agree with you Ryan. The relationships I am referring to is that of familiarity with other players reactions and their familiarity with my reactions. If I don't know a player at all, I am quite unlikely to offer a truce to them (unless the board layout COMPLETELY indicates the need to do this). However, I am much more prone to offering a truce to a "friend" simply because I know how they will react to it and that they can be counted on to support my offer.

I do not condone PGA and I do not condone next-game-favors. But the knowledge and familiarity with other players style of play is essential to being successful at the higher tables.

At conquerclub you pick your opponents in much the same way as kdice. You search to find a table with the correct settings/map/etc you want, and then you can see who is already sitting. It's just like picking a table in kdice and seeing who's already sitting.

The "key" difference is that there you see a number next to someone's name indicating their average rating between three factors (game play, fairness, and attitude.)

So someone might see:
Vermont (4.8)
RandomGuy1 (4.6)
RandomGal1 (5.0)
RandomGuy2 (2.3)
already sitting at the table. Pretty clear indication of what to expect from the people at the table, right?

They also have a pretty cool tagging system, so instead of people having the ability to leave all sorts of nastiness in rewiews, they just pick the simple 1-5 stars and selects tags like "trustworthy," "quick," "skilled," etc.

This way people can easily, simple leave accurate feedback without getting into pissing contests.

In fact, you can only give a review if you just played someone, and you can't see each others reviews until you've both submitted yours. If you play them again, you can update it in case they have acted differently.

Players still have 'walls' so that friends can leave fun comments.

@ Wishbone - "To be honest, I have always sat with WHOEVER chooses to sit with me" - that is a lie.

@ Christian Soldier - i agree with the idea of seeing replays.

@ Leek - No offense, but you're prolly the biggest cheater who ever played this game (after riser). I dont know why you did that, but even if it was for good purposes, its still REALLY bad. I have some respect for you, but that not too much. You often start to accuse people even if you did not find all the info about the situation. Furthermore, I think that you should first repay your debt for KDice (about cheating) and only then start pointing at others.

KDice is a game of diplomacy and war and while having PGA's is illegal, I still think that this game would lose a lot of its fun with "anonymous" names (as suggested above) or if any relationships-diplomacy would be forbidden. There will always be some people that i'd much rather truce/be friends with then others. Call the elitism, favouritism or whatever. Trucing people you know/people that are reliable was always better way for me then trucing an unknown noob about whom I have no idea what he would do. The same goes with attacking : if there are 2 people that have almost same positions/dices and 1 of them is an unknown person and the other 1 is my friend, i will attack the noob (and I think its perfectly normal).

Back to this discussion. While I haven't played much for the last few months, i've played a lot before and as far as i've seen, not that many of players need a culture change. Most of top players (like 65%) are fair, good players who are fun to chat while playing and only some of them were (are) real cheaters, which definately need a change.

Possibly most of the people should try to play like Nuflis/Vermont/Cleopatra/Wicked! aka clean game.

Unlucky, your response to this post is hilarious. It shows how much you truly don't know about the game.

I sit with everyone.

You're chosen players down at the bottom.
1)Nuflis- one of the biggest PGAers of all time, def had friends help him PGA to 1st, can't deny that, why do you think people got banned in July? PGA...
2)Vermont- part of cabal, on the outside, has done a Galileo like trasformation, no more politicking for him, Good on you mate
3)Cleopatra- Oh come on this girl had more games HANDED to her on a silver plate than any other kgirl in the game (including Hart, stacy, DG etc)
4)Wicked!- has only played like 500 games, has 2 trophies from early 2007 and really isn't THAT impressive, probably the QUOTE most fair player listed UNQUOTE

I'm not trying to insult anyone's personality than yours unlucky.

You really are dumb.
