Top Player Culture Change
Ryan wrote

Things have dramatically improved this year for the culture of the top players. The improvement is these players being more interested in playing a good game than favoring their friends to get a higher rank.

However there are still a few top players around that get ahead by favoring each other. I'm surprised they're still able to get away with this. I see it as lame. Most other players do to. Yet they are still able to get away with it.

It's important for the better players to look down on this type of play because I can't monitor every game. Things need to change at the top tables. To players should feel confident in pointing out this cheap style of playing and acting accordingly.

I'd like people to post here if they're interested in helping to change the culture at the top tables. The goal for the culture at the top is to respect a good game and see players who need extra help to win as poorer players.

Well, I guess it is time for this account to get banned, but I just can't take it anymore. Ryan, these forums do not revolve around you. Whether YOU want to hear from someone or not is irrelevant. These forums exist for the benefit of the members at large. You are not God. You are not omniscient. You do not speak for all of the members of this community. Frankly, the arrogance and intolerance you have displayed of late is appalling. Taking a look at the advisorLog is rather illustrative of this. "Wasting my time" is a legitimate reason to ban someone? Banning someone for questioning your right to impose your own version of the thought police on all the members of the community?

I have a serious problem with the culture of repression and censorship that you are creating here. The message is clear: Don't express your opinions if they conflict with Ryan's or you will be banned. Don't take offense and voice your outrage at something that you believe to be unacceptable conceit and hubris on the part of Ryan or you will be banned. If you want to keep your privileges, just shut up, toe the line and keep your head down. Otherwise you will be banned.

Enough is enough. I have enjoyed the friendships and comraderie that I have experienced during my time here, but if the price of maintaining this account is that I must keep silent in the face of what I perceive to be blatant dictatorial BS on the part of Ryan, then that price is too high. Ryan told me the other day that "you are the community, but the technology belongs to me". In effect saying that since he controls the medium upon which the community relies in order to exist and interact, he can do whatever he damn well pleases. The truth of this is obvious. He can do whatever he damn well pleases and quite obviously he has been doing so. But the question of whether he should is something else entirely and for me the answer to that question is a resounding "NO".

I have no problem whatsoever with the original topic of this thread. Frankly, I stopped playing competitively months ago largely because of the issues Ryan raised concerning favoritism. I fully support the mission of creating a more transparent and equitable culture of play. However, I do not support the mission of restricting freedom of expression simply because Ryan can't handle criticism or conflicting philosophies. I not support the creation of a virtual police state where members are afraid to express their opinions and that is what I believe Ryan has been doing of late. Therefore, in protest, I am out.

I also disagree that it's a "obey or get out" thing with Ryan.

We can say whatever the hell we want, but he does control our privileges. I have disagreed many times with what Ryan does, but it doesn't affect him. Partly because I pose no threat to him since I am just a two-bit forum troll. I am also not part of the alleged "top player culture" he is disgusted with.

I think it's completely understandable that he has some issues with whats going on. He wants kdice to prosper, and while he may not be able to devote all his time, he does what he can when he can (I assume so). On the the other hand, his methods of doing so are very unorganized and irresponsible as the creator of this game. Unfortunately, most of the information passed around on kdice is second hand, and primary sources (as in the players involved) say so after the fact.

A few months ago, Ryan knocked down nuflis' and vohauls score, for what? No one has really given me a clear definition. It only came up when Nuflis made a post in the forum. Why could we access this on say, the advisor blog, and why wasn't a clear reason given? Ryan, I don't really want to be part of any top player culture whatsoever if you think you can haphazardly shut down a score like that.

Yet, I agree with his idea that cheating just makes this game a huge waste of time. Fuck, I've been doing this for 2 + years now, and I haven't gotten shit. To know that people are getting what I want by palling around is irritating as all hell.

Thanks les, I think that sarcasm puts this conflict into perspective.

BR, This is a simple game on the web that I would like to have some integrity at the higher tables. I would like to promote top players as Great Kdice Players. But I can't because the integrity isn't there. I don't care if I hurt some peoples opinions of freedom and democracy to get there. This isn't your country, this isn't your life. This is a game that is striving for integrity at the top tables - if you're going to compromise that then I don't give a damn if I'm being arrogant and intollerant. Passiveness and tolerance have not brought the game any integrity so far.

Now, for the benefit of readers who care about what your saying (probably less than 10 people), I'll respond to the things you've said:

"Ryan, these forums do not revolve around you"
Right. I built these forums to create a discussion around the game. But if people who are banned complain ad nauseam about the rules they'll get blocked. This isn't going about going against my opinion, its about flooding a topic with what is basically saying "my friend got banned and I think it sucks" over and over. If you really want to defend your friend who is being an ass please go somewhere else.

""Wasting my time" is a legitimate reason to ban someone?"
See BR, you are continuing the trend of some of the other posts. You are being alarmist. You are taking things out of context and having them fit nicely into your disdain for authority. Flooding chat, creating alts to post again and again on the same topic is wasting my time. It's also wasting my time banning the same person over and over.

"I have a serious problem with the culture of repression and censorship that you are creating here"
The only people who feel repressed are the ones who want to cheat. BR, remember I've dealt with a whole tonne of conflict over kdice changes, all I have read and acknowledged. I think its a little devisive to claim I don't do this all of a sudden when you feel your friends get hit.

This is to be continued....

So folks.

First:
Ryan,
I thank you for actually defining to a certain point what you consider to be the problem with Top Players and game to game thingy. I don't mind not being able to find the right words or measure to convince you to do so before the whining about it started.
Another thing. I totally agree with you on the who is in charge here thing although i didn't give much thought about who is trying to protect whom by speaking up. Since this isn't a democratic owned thingy and i do see you reacting on a lot of ideas in the way you find suitable it's all cool with me.
Having a record game feature and allowing people to debate over them is going to have a huge impact of what is seen as tolerable and punishable behavior.

I'm looking forward to see it.

And to all you other posters here.
I like reading this threat. It's really great kdrama no one needs soap operas when he can read this forum.

so happy posting
