I think you are wrong in your approach. You described a situation where you were tolerant of racist hate behavior, except to the point where he disrespects you as a moderator. Who gives a fuck about your glorious role as moderator? You dont deserve any more respect than any other player in the game. It shouldnt matter if someone uses racist hate language at a 14 year old n00b or King Ryan himslef. Racist hate language is not tolerable. |

at 9:05 PM, Sunday June 22, 2008 EDT I've written before. The reason I didn't take action was that it was a single outburst followed immediately by "has left the table". There was no persistent harrassment, it was an outburst.
Is it cool? Absolutely not. There needs to be better defined rules, yes, and I'm sure that's to come. Problem is, it's difficult to write a comprehensive "this is tolerated and this is not" list. Though I will work on compiling one for the advisor blog, it will take time and I probably want to discuss it with other mods and especially the Ry guy. |

'You can expect me to take action if something is INDEED offensive and harassing of another player... you really cant expect me to police.' - Please explain what you are here for...Maybe you dont know your job...and can anyone smell the stench of contradiction...THE POINT IS...THIS IS OFFENSIVE...look at the responses you've received... "I know this wasn't "nice". Lots of things in life arnt nice. But this is not flagrant or extremely out of bounds." -IGNORANCE pt 2???- *sighs* -Let me count to ten- TO YOU it may not be out of bounds...but to more than 50% of America...it's out of bounds and disrespectful...Im glad you dont make the rules for social interaction. That may sound harsh, but to you and your rules...hell, it may be a compliment... My pt. what is flagrant? I want to know...I was with you at first...but after your second pt...you lost me...if you have to mute 10% of kdicers...for being offensive and harrassing other kdicers... DO IT. That's your job. I agree some things you have to let fly bye, but some of these people are out of hand. Some go so far as to post things in the forum...and nothing is done abt it...I miss the anonymous chat banner...at least he was dependable when it came to muting ignorant kdicers...If this bothers you...GET A THICK SKIN RIGHT??? |

at 9:25 PM, Sunday June 22, 2008 EDT Players are cussing and name calling at a LOT of tables. Muting everyone that swears would be extremely detrimental to the community because a high percentage of players DO.
The N word is a heated topic because it has people worked up in very little time. It doesn't offend some folks too much, it is downright flagrant and horrendous to others. It is difficult as a moderator to choose what to ban and what not to ban. I'd appreciate it if as a community we tried to define what things we want moderated and what things we don't, rather than yelling at me. In hindsight, I was inconsiderate to mozzer in the tone I took with him. It's difficult to be 100% perfect at all times while trying to help or explain things to others. The key issue right now is defining what is unacceptable and that needs to start top down and from the bottom up. Ry needs to shine some light on some of these issues and the community should volunteer a list or something of things they'd like moderator (and how harshly for each type of infraction). I don't like the comment the guy made initially. Let's not take the fact that I chose inaction over action to mean that I support his statement - not at all. |

at 10:37 PM, Thursday June 26, 2008 EDT This is so freaking ridiculous!
Everytime someone breaks a rule, do something! If someone says something in the chat that is offensive, block their ability to chat for some period of time (an hour on the first offense?) If someone posts something in the forum that is offensive, block their ability to post for a period of time. If someone uses noncompetitive gamplay such as PGA, offclient IM, etc. then block their ability to play for a period of time. If you guys would do ANYTHING to clean up this cesspool then I suspect people would start moderating themselves. The next time you see Nexon and Lext cheat, just block them for an hour and I bet they will eventually quit doing it. You shouldnt require a lengthy trial and a jury conviction beyond all reasonable doubt to do something! All you need is some nuts to do something! Start moderating! I assume Ryan picked you guys as moderators because you have the capacity to recognize cheating and hate. Just freaking nut up and do your darned job! |

at 11:17 PM, Thursday June 26, 2008 EDT Reading through these threads and I get the distinct impression that sometimes Grun doesn't hear what other people are saying. He writes a lot but it feels like there is not a connection.
I do feel that he is right about standards. The most important thing is to get REAL standards from Ryan. When and why to mute for racism, when and why to mute for dirty words. The sooner you fix that then the clearer standards will give Grun and Fiero clearer mileposts to follow. For instance I have heard recently of many people muted for no reason. Lets get clear standards as Grun says and post them in community forum so we know why. Make it an efficient process. The community moves on. |
