grun, this clearly isn't sinking in, just tell them that you are a moderator, this is a dictatorship and they can ( maybe ) work the rest out...

to the people that can't seem to let this go, i urge them to think about it logically, seriously, just take the emotion out for a second and see how petty this argument is, and how petty the person was for starting it off in the first place ( not mozzer, the nigger kid )

READ someones post for a change, i mean, understand it.

sorry, just another reply, whilst i was chatting with Nuf, we thought it'd be appropriate to repeat the fact that this is the internet. let's look into that fact a bit more, what goes hand in hand with the internet, no not porn, ANONYMITY. Surprised? YOU SHOULD BE.

people say 'crude' stuff like this all the time because they can get away with it and why not let them, this isn't actaully real life, i'd rather not think of it like that, and maybe you can spare these 'derranged' people some empathy as you realise that this is the only place they can let out their anger, what better place than online to do so, would you rather they did in the 'real world' where they may infact hurt someone else as you are so keen to suggest they are 'that far gone'?

It is a very good stance that Grun is taking to not over moderate this place.

But people will continue to do it if there isn't a line drawn, and therefor when the time comes, no one will respect the authority.
Of course, it would be fantastic if we could play this game without fear, and the knowledge our mods are cool as cucumbers.

It also might have to do with the number of mods we have as well.

Another aspect is that you usually don't know where the person abusing language is located. His sayings might be perfectly legal at his while being a crime at yours. E.g. using Hitler as an avatar would probably be a crime in Germany - it is not in America. Which law should be enforced?

I think Grun is right, action and warnings should be taken if somebody is drawing attention to his negative behavior again and again. And of course, without any disrespect or disbelieve to anybody, mutual sources should be available.

PLEASE READ, THIS IS WORTHWHILE.

After reading all of this stuff, it seems that people believe that the idea for mods was to eliminate ANY hate/offensive chat as well as disturbing or offensive avatars.

Now, would you rather have an omniscient moderating team that sits there and scours every inch of chat for abusive or offensive remarks? Obviously, no.

Grun's method is to find an absolute, over the top example to ban or moderate, as well as giving people notice of how long they are banned for and what they are blocked for as well.

It must be understood that:
A)We have a small number of moderators
B)Those moderators are only on at certain points in the day
C) There is no written "Acceptable/Unacceptable" around

It should be noted that, until there are more moderators appointed (Ryan, we will need them), and until it is exactly defined what will/won't be tolerated and exercised by each mod, things will be a bit rough around the edges, I believe.

Also, Diceygirl, (as if he needs more of this), Grunvagr is one of the best choices for moderator, and if you need explaining, you just answered your own question. Anywho, there were several other names suggested that were good, and I do wish to hear Ryan's reasoning between the other moderators.

@Jdizzle

While clarifying Grun's points, I think you missed mine.

I am questioning the mods from more of a top level view. I have not questioned Grun's qualifications.

What I was getting at is that mods are used to create a more consistent community experience for members. They function as maintaining the baseline of community behavior and reprimand/reward those that fall on the extremes of behavior.

What I was questioning is two fold.

1. The fact that the community baseline varies from mod to mod without a general set of guidelines in place. Grun cited the police analogy, but I disagreed because there is a baseline in place at least in the US from which they must act upon.

2. I was interested in why Ryan made the choices he did for Mod. This again, is not a judgement call on either choice. It seemed that the community of players were gathering around several key community members and those members were not elected to the post.

I am happy to see that Grun has a solid foundation for his status as a Mod. It shows forethought and dedication. However, is it safe to assume this will be the case with every mod without some sort of basic community rules in place?

I get that you can say - Hey, this is the internet get over it. But this is OUR space on the internet and WE should have a say in how it is run.

And that is for the K-people by the K-people.

YEA!! I can say whatever I want, no matter who it offends!! WOo HOO.. wait I already do that.. although I would never use the n word or something that derogatory. However I will tell you I hope you get a scortching case of herpes. BUT constructive smack talking is allowed in an game.

Think about it this way... if it is something you would say if you were sitting playing RISK in real life.. then say it here.

Again I would tell you to get a scortching case of herpes. :)

I wish I could put you on ignore, ilovekdicetodeath.

I understand what you mean, Diceygirl.

But still, my observations stand:
-We don't have enough moderators
-A moderators purpose is NOT to get rid of all shit said on kdice.

As I quote a Quote of a quote:
"Do everything in moderation, including moderation"

Seems like a good idea to me.
