What should be done?

Looks like every time I think I'm finished with changes and things look stable the KDice people find another hole to exploit.
I agree that you shouldn't be able to buy first place (even though that little race paid for the server for last month). The reason it was possible was that it was a bug introduced when kdice moved to its own server and member bonuses were added. I knew about the bug but didn't think it would be used this way. As for bomb being played buy multiple people I can't think of any solution to this. I don't think there's any way to prevent this. Although the leagues idea is probably the best step. That idea is where different leagues of play are introduced that have different play parameters. For example, 16 dice, ELO scores, or a maximum number of games in a day. Its a cool idea but kdice needs probably 10x the population to make it useful. Anyway, just posting to get your thoughts on how last months top 3 should be handled. |

at 2:44 PM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT All of you people who are complaining that Wishbone buying his victory is not good sportsmanship are rather hypocritical. I am sure that you don't have a problem when your favorite professional team "buys" a championship by paying millions of dollars to acquire the best talent available. So Wishbone is the George Steinbrenner of Kdice. There is nothing wrong with that. He made use of the options available to win.
None of you that are bitching about Wishbone's unorthodox strategy are complaining about Bomb playing 8 times as many games. As I said before, there is no league anywhere that awards a championship to a player or team that plays 8 times as many games as the competition. I don't have a problem with Bomb playing the number of games he did, but it is just as "unfair" to award him the championship on that basis as it is to award it to Wishbone. Both methods were legal. Wishbone's was just more effective. Get over it. To be honest, in any league that used a legimate scoring formula, Bomb wouldn't have come close to winning. His ppg average was 57.72. Hell, even MY ppg of 60.34 was better than that. And I suck. It certainly doesn't come close to Jeremy's at 405.08 or Sam's at 483.02. And his combined 1st/2nd/3rd win percentage of 50% is certainly far below Dicey's at 58% or Jeremy's at 55%. For that matter, Bomb got 17% first place finishes, Wish got 20% and Sam won 25% of his games. So who deserves the overall 1st? Until the ranking system is fixed to award the monthly trophy to the most excellent player, the winner is who the winner is. And for April, the winner was Wishbone. |

at 2:45 PM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT First of all, i stick by Bomb in the fact that he did not let multiple people play his account. The only thing he "admitted" doing was having someone play a couple turns for him while he was parking a car so he didn't lose and even when doing this, he would have instructed them as to what they should do. The incredible amount of games he played was quite definitively explained by the fact that he is a PARKING LOT ATTENDANT and can literally sit there all day playing kdice. I'm sick of people making baseless accusations about someone who was clearly very dedicated to the game, and obviously wanted nothing more than to win a month to show people that his strategy of playing incredible amounts of games on lower tables could triumph.
Second of all, WIsh, i don't think that i saw one person on any of the MANY threads about what happened yesterday say that you or Dicey cheated. The general consensus was that is was a fairly pathetic move and although you call it "using all of your resources" to win the game, this feature is not meant to be PART of the game. It seems rather trivial to pay for points you didn't earn, in order to get a trophy you don't deserve, but i suppose that is your prerogative. As a side note to this whole debate, some of your points, wish, were in fact bought after midnight (i was watching it closely) and for some reason they still counted. So in reality the last about ten thousand points you bought were bought on May 1st and should therefore be included your score for May, not April. That being said, i would think there are only three legitimate options: 1) Strip the bonus points purchased on the final day of the month, and return the money on the basis that it was a glitch in the first place. -However, as you said Ryan, that money payed for the server for the month, so this, although being the popular choice, is probably not in your best interest. 2) Leave things exactly as they are, and change nothing. -However, this would be extremely unfair to Bomb, who worked very hard for his win, and lets not forget, to Jer, who got screwed out of third, a position he earned as-well. 3) Allow Wish to keep his gold medal, and give Bomb's bronze medal to Jer and award Bomb with a gold medal as-well. -This seems like the most fair and just move to make. I believe it would please everyone and solve all of the problems. Although what wish did was shady, he did not do anything wrong, and therefore, should not be punished. But, at the same time Bomb was clearly the one who deserved the win and should be given what is rightfully his. As Dicey would have been in second anyways, it seems like she just wasted money, but her position is still legitimate. And, as giving Bomb a gold medal would free open third, Jer would receive the position he deserved as-well. You could then move everyone up one rank or just leave 4th empty. I would hope and assume that there would not be anyone who would be unsatisfied with this solution. |

at 2:52 PM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT Yeah, Pat. That is a great idea. How about Ryan giving Chris a co-gold medal for March, or better yet stripping you of yours and giving you the silver, since you only got the gold because Ryan gave you Cambria's points in the last 5 minutes of the month?

BR...your analogy is flawed. When a sports team pays players, they are paying the players to play the game. Wish literally bought the win, which would be equivalent to the Yankees writing the Commissioner of Baseball a fat check to announce them the World Series Winners without having to play in it. (This is, by the way, the only way the Yankees are ever gonna win another World Series) Also, there is definitely something to say for dedication, especially in this game, and Bomb has it. **I am still not saying Wish did anything illegal, all he did was take advantage of the flawed system. He should not be punished, but neither should Bomb and to address your last post: I did not ask for Ryan to give me anything, that was his own prerogative. However there was no difference between giving me points and stripping Chris of the points you helped him cheat to get. The difference between the two cases is that in this situation, both parties are innocent, but one is still being punished (two with Jer), and that should be rectified. Especially when it would be so easy to right the situation. P.S. he could take away those points and i would still have more points in that one month than in your entire career... |

at 3:06 PM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT I just want to be clear here to those asking that my medal be striped.
I earned 2nd place without buying points. I wanted to keep my second place and did what was necessary. I earned those points and was beat by a team. Most of my points were NOT bought and I have donated to the site previous to POINTGATE. |

But just for the sake of clarity, how would you define a "team?" |

You forget, Pat, that I was present in the room when you were whining to Ryan. So don't try to claim that you didn't beg Ryan to help you win. Because you did and I was witness to it. As to the last part of your post, I have no illusions as to my skill level in this game, which is average at best. I just don't like whining hypocrites. |
