Fatman_x takes the 2010 TAZD; computation of complete standings in progress.
Posted By: skrumgaer at 6:51 PM, Saturday January 1, 2011 EST
Here are Fatman_x's final stats:

1631 22% 16% 13% 12% 10% 11% 11% 22535 Fatman_x

Olkainry38 did not play any additional games after Dec 21.

Here were the two leaders on Dec 21:

1591 22% 16% 13% 13% 10% 11% 11% 21975 Fatman_x
0894 22% 20% 16% 13% 11% 08% 07% 21798 olkainry38

The November scores are below. They were recomputed when I found I had been using the 2009 datum instead of the 2010 datum.

The Test Against Zero Datum (TAZD) is a weighted sum of the squares of the differences between a player's percentage profile and the profile of a typical player with a zero score, adjusted according to the square root of the number of games played. If you would like to enter the cumulative TAZD competition for 2010, reply to this thread in the account that you want to enter.

In 2010, the cumulative TAZD began in April, because some January, February, and March profiles had corrupted percentages.

A minimum of sixty regular games per month was required.

Entries show number of games, percentages, and player name.

A minimum of 540 regular games played was required to remain in the standings as of December 31.

Here are the end of November standings with the new datum.

Skrum, on the one hand vflaggers will have a dom boost cause of the lands that won't get taken anymore cause of the flag. On the other hand vflaggers 'lose' a lot of dom by vflagging. The dom percentage is determined a lot by the amount of firsts, and a typical vflag doesn't go for #1.

It was actually gb who led me to thinking about why the person in first always has 100% dom on their profile, and that was the only logical conclusion. Thanks, gb.

chaiNblade is correct in saying a high average dom can be linked to a high 1sts percentage. That's a very good point. Monte said Sam generally focuses on getting more dom points and worries less about position- so I wouldn't be surprised if his second places were often very high percentages (45 and up). Because others focus much more on placement this skews the percentages on the profile. Overall, the career top 5 are pretty close. I combined stats for montecarlo and the full monte, deleted corrupted months then calculated average dom (month% times number of games that month divided by total # of games). That number is displayed first, followed by each player's percentage profile.

38.1% 24.3% 20.9% 15.3% 13.4% 08.9% 06.7% 06.8% fiero
34.8% 21.0% 15.8% 11.6% 12.3% 11.1% 10.8% 13.4% Das
34.2% 19.4% 18.9% 12.6% 11.2% 09.5% 10.2% 14.6% Vo
32.4% 17.3% 13.4% 11.8% 09.7% 09.3% 12.4% 17.7% Sam
19.5% 19.3% 17.3% 16.5% 12.5% 10.8% 09.9% 10.5% Monte

To me, it looks like there's probably a stronger correlation between percentage profile and dom percentage than there is between dom percentage and dom points. For example, Thrax's dom this month is very high because he has an unusually high percentage of first places and a low percentage of 7th places. Likewise, Jesse's career dom is probably very high because of his low percentages in 5/6/7.

I believe it would be helpful if Ryan posted a percentage on the profile that has to do with dom points earned rather than with the percentages of land remaining. That stat could be usefully integrated to the TAZD or the ASR and is more telling of what actually happened during a game. A player who spread himself out early then died quickly would have more dom points but if it took them two rounds to die after spreading, the percentage listed would still be very small. I'm still working out how exactly the percentage displayed is calculated for people who are killed rather than flagging out, but since I have a bunch of work due Friday, I should be able to use that to procrastinate and I'll figure it out sometime today.

nice calcs chloe. couple notes: theres some error in my dom calc, cus it looks you say i have 19% dom? just eyeballing both my accts, i would guess i average 32 to 33. also, june 2007 is a crapfest for stats because that was when i used both accts to 1) flagfest int to 1st, and 2) tank for fun. pretty sure das did something similar, but i didnt look at his stats. i wouldnt be surprised if sam or voh tanked at some point, too. so maybe when youre doing these averages, just look at everyones best 12 months lol. no im just kidding. its a fun analysis, thanks for the effort!

Here are the top 100 (as of Nov 15) arranged according to the ratio of their dom percentage compared to that of a player with the same percentage profile who would always flag without fighting (FWF).

These figures are so close together it may not be possible to make any sense out of them. Supposedly, the lower the figure, the less wimpy is the player.

Thanks all- and thanks for the plus skrum.

Monte- I forgot to delete the months in 07 when dom wasn't calculated from one of your accounts. Oops. Sorry! Your stats should be as follows:
33.8% 20.2% 17.8% 17.2% 12.4% 10.8% 08.9% 09.7%

Since stats from 2007 weren't included flagfest/tanking from that June shouldn't be a problem.

Skrum- How did you find those numbers?
skrumgaer wrote

For a table with 28 countries, if places 7 through 2 flagged successively without fighting, the dom percentage for that game would be

4/28 4/24 4/20 4/16 4/12 4/8 4/4

from seventh to first. For a table with 35 countries the fraction values would be the same. So table size really doesn't matter. These average out to about 37%.

Then, for each player, I took the sum of these weighted by that player's percentage profile.

Then, I took the ratio of their dom percentages to the weighted sum I just calculated. In the case of Kehoe, since he played only one game, which he won, his came out to 1.00 by definition.

Since first-placers do not flag, I have taken the same 100 players for Nov 15 and subtracted the first place percentage from dom and compared to the non-first place percentage profile and I get this. The biggest difference is for Kehoe, who does not have any non-first-place games.
