Fatman_x takes the 2010 TAZD; computation of complete standings in progress.
Posted By: skrumgaer at 6:51 PM, Saturday January 1, 2011 EST
Here are Fatman_x's final stats:

1631 22% 16% 13% 12% 10% 11% 11% 22535 Fatman_x

Olkainry38 did not play any additional games after Dec 21.

Here were the two leaders on Dec 21:

1591 22% 16% 13% 13% 10% 11% 11% 21975 Fatman_x
0894 22% 20% 16% 13% 11% 08% 07% 21798 olkainry38

The November scores are below. They were recomputed when I found I had been using the 2009 datum instead of the 2010 datum.

The Test Against Zero Datum (TAZD) is a weighted sum of the squares of the differences between a player's percentage profile and the profile of a typical player with a zero score, adjusted according to the square root of the number of games played. If you would like to enter the cumulative TAZD competition for 2010, reply to this thread in the account that you want to enter.

In 2010, the cumulative TAZD began in April, because some January, February, and March profiles had corrupted percentages.

A minimum of sixty regular games per month was required.

Entries show number of games, percentages, and player name.

A minimum of 540 regular games played was required to remain in the standings as of December 31.

Here are the end of November standings with the new datum.

in the end, 7ths suck. but some 7ths are better than others. if you were to measure the points i get for 5th-7th versus the points that sam gets for 5th-7th, it would be laughable how badly he would destroy me. its just that i have way less 5th-7ths than he does.

so its a tough dilemma here, you dont want to penalize sam, because he really has perfected his method of maximizing dom points over gaining placement points, and we can all agree that sam is a demigod at kdice.

so if you make a stat that simply penalizes 5ht-7th, it would make sam appear less skillful than, say, me. which i can attest is not the case.

the only solution i can think of off the top of my head is to somehow include the %DOM in the skill stat. so whereas i gain skill on sam in the 1st->7th distribution stat, he gains it back in the %DOM stat. try to add that as a tweak to your ASR chloe, maybe just a simple multiplicative factor... or a squared one. whatever gives career results that put sam slightly better than me, that should be just about right. and lol, that would be a hilarious scale, from monte->sam. heh.

its like a myers-briggs test category for kdice. if you tend to whine and be wussy more, you are an M, if you tend to be more aggressive and detached, you are an S.

sorry this is a tangent.

That's an interesting idea about the dom stat. Which brings up the question, how is it calculated? My first (and only) five games for November have all been on zero level tables where there is supposedly no dom, but the games have dom percentages.

since i focus more on placement than dom, i don't know all the particulars of the dom calc. MadHat_Sam has the most experience/knowledge about how dom works i think. i've heard rumors and grumblings about not flagging until round 3, and then flagging as soon as you realize you wont be able to hold any more territory.

but i guess thats more concerning the strategy of how to maximize dom. as far as how kdice generates the number that is outputted onto every player's stats page... i dunno. i'll email Ryan, maybe he'll get back to me, i'll keep you updated if so.

Why are we even discussing modifying the tazd which is inherently flawed as a measure of skill (see noamlang who is still in top 4 with 35% 7ths.)

The ASR is much closer to what we're trying to achieve, and would most likely still be closer even if dom were factored into the tazd.

Now, dom factored in to the asr would rock.

Verms: How do you propose integrating dom into the asr or tazd?

I don't have a better way than what's already been discussed; I just want the focus to be on modifying the better algorithm rather than the flawed one.

I'll work on it.

dom makes no sense when you win 1st in a game it shows up as 100% in ur stats every time

after watching a couple games dom percentage doesn't appear to have a correlation with dom points. BUT I am pretty sure dom percentage = percent of claimed territories remaining (neuts don't count) that belong to you the round before you die/the round you flag out. This is why it's always 100 when you win- all the remaining claimed territories are yours.

I'm not positive about this but for the last couple games I watched this held true with the last people flagging out. I didn't check on the lower places so I might be wrong, but this is a start.

What this means though is that dom percentage doesn't correlate directly with dom points so there is no way to integrate dom into the asr accurately.
