I'm soon going to be adding the ability for voice chat at the table level to Deadcode Tools (Chrome only).

I'm looking for volunteers who want this feature released to them earlier for early feedback / testing.

If you are interested in having this ability added to your Deadcode Tools then reply to this thread.

I'll check it out. Last time I check auto end was working. Maybe sometime changed on kdice; if that is the case I can fix it rather simply today.

+ annotations work for players red and green
(hint: most left players???)

That isn't happening for me. Do you know how to check the browser console for errors? Developer Tools -> Then press the console tab. See if it says anything in there.

On my Chrome; everything is working fine.

sorry for delay

from console tab:

contentscript.js:280 Uncaught TypeError: $(...).highlight is not a function

Ok pushed out an update that should stop that error from causing issues for Auto End Turn etc. Highlighting flags in game still seems to be failing though. I'm working on a fix.

I think the idea of voice chat is not a totally bad idea on its own but to add it to a plugin that not everyone has, not everyone knows about or not everyone is willing to add is just a really bad idea and it's not going to make KDice better.

It's an unfair advantage to the people that (ab)use it and tbh it's going to facilitate cheating for a group of people that otherwise wouldn't think about cheating.

I could list a ton of examples or situations but I'm not going to bother. The fact alone that the people who don't have the DC tools can't see who installed it and who might be talking to who(flagging or trucing in a best case scenario) is just plain unfair to begin with.

Yes voice chat has lots of fun potential and yes people who want to cheat via chat will find other ways but these are not enough reasons to allow it on a separate plugin.

Anyway, I'm just going to ask Ryan how he feels about this. Maybe he likes it and would be prepared to just add it into the code (which would fix most issues that I have with it being on a seperate plugin)

Ideally I'd like to add it into the main source code of Kdice. That is up to Ryan.

For now it is a beta feature that is in it's infancy. It has a number of bugs which are being fixed and were found with the help of the Kdice community. For this I'm thankful.

Let me clarify some of aspects of it. The voice chat feature only let's you speak to the entire table. If you are using the tool to speak; everyone at the table (using Deadcode Tools) can hear you; including spectators.

I understand your points about voice chat being an unfair advantage if it is abused; but there are a number of solutions to this.

First; Ryan can implement this feature for everyone. That would be ideal. Of course; when it is ready.

Second; It will display that people are using it. If you have Deadcode Tools. You will see that others are connected to the chat because they will have an icon next to them. If it is warranted I can display a message in chat for non Deadcode Tools users so they know people are connected to a voice chat. They can download the tool if they want to listen in.

Overall; there are plenty of tools to facilitate voice chat that is way more private. TinyChat / Hangouts / Skype / Teamviewer.

This allows the table to speak and be heard; not for private conversations. Other tools out there have that covered.

I welcome any feedback as this feature develops. At this point it is just a beta feature and requires a few bug fixes to be actually functional / useful.

DC, we seem to agree on a lot of general stuff:

* other tools and programs are available (which would allow to cheat without others being able to tune into the convo)

* this would be a nice feature if it were added to the Kdice code although I still think it would pose a small(er) disadvantage to people who chose not to use audio or actually just can't because they play at work/school (cough lol).

you actually mention some of the problems that I currently see with the current situation:

"everyone at the table (using Deadcode Tools) can hear you; including spectators." --> ONLY the people using the deadcode tools can hear the (always public)chat

"It will display that people are using it. If you have Deadcode Tools" --> ONLY the people using the deadcode tools can see these extra icons (even more advantages imo because now they can see in advance who they can communicate with via chat)

now that you mention the possibility of displaying an automated message in chat, I think there's a lot you can do to make the voice feature more "fair" as a second party tool:

- display something like "players X, Y and Integral are currently using the DC voice tool". Maybe showing such a message at the start of a new game could inform the people that don't use the tool themselves.

- another message that could appear in chat or maybe even better somewhere outside of the chatbox (so it only shows to the person using DC tools) could have a warning or a terms of use message along the lines of "please only use this feature for extra fun, when you say flag via chat, don't forget to mention in chat too so everyone at the table knows too"

DC, don't get me wrong here. I welcome your efforts to add spice to KDice, even with this voice feature. But I have to give the feedback about the negative side effects of it too so hopefully it can find it's place on KDice without interfering with the fairness of the games.

so far no reaction from Ryan so gl with the project
