Joint, we've been over this before with you and other conspiracy-fanatics

Yes, there are scripts or other exploits being used from time to time. We are looking out for them and deal with them when they are used.

They are not that widespread as you seem to believe.

To be honest, I think most scripters or hackers have been caught or stopped in the past. If lag hacks or ddos attacks or whatever else were that commonly used, you would see much more fishy results in the leaderboard each month. Luckily people report weird things so not much goes unnoticed for a long while.

That recent scripter tried his stuff for 2 or 3 games on the higher tables and within an hour the guy was banned (I even waited to gather more evidence). Within a day, the loophole was closed.

I say good job and thanks Ryan.

Comment whatever you want but please, let's not kill the good constructive discussion with these spectacular theories?

This was actually more directed at spuh but joint was the last one to comment in a similar way. Sorry if you felt attacked :)

Again, I'm not saying there are no security issues at all but I think this site is relatively safe. Over 99% of the lags are not related to people hacking or scripting.

I am not now saying nor have I ever said that all lags are due to scripts or other "funny business". The first round Chrome lag, for example, is not something anybody is doing on purpose, and it's avoidable. But let's be honest, Jurg: this guy got caught because he wanted to be caught -- his script resulted a lot of chat box noise and he went to brag in chat on other tables before he got banned. If a loudmouth gets caught mostly because he's being a loudmouth, it's no indication that a more subtle cheater isn't possible.

Jurgen my point is 100% valid. Stop letting personal bias affect your judgment.

Show us the script or stop beating that dead horse STJ. I agree with jurgen.

There is definitely 'game timeouts' where everyone on the table stops getting updates. Those that do not refresh (to re-establish game connection) soon enough; miss their turn. Sometimes it takes a few refreshes because the server appears to be overloaded during this period (few seconds).

This has gone on for as long as I can remember; but appears to happen more often now then at times in the past.

This usually results in the entire table needing to refreshing and usually results in chat such as "did anyone else lag or just me?", "yeah me too", "oh ok must be server".

The second issue is the one we observed the other day. Someone discovered that if you sit out then back in very quickly; it will cause all the players to de-sync / disconnect from the game. Not sure if the nature of this attack is desyncronization or if it is merely a DOS type bug. Ryan fixed this shortly after it was exploited.

All the other issues; I haven't observed. And no offense; Smoke Two Joints; but I don't believe you will ever find evidence of your IP targeting script. There are many engineering reasons why this is unlikely but why bother because last thread I went into them it didn't deter you guys from the theory.

Well if you can't beat 'em.

The Truth is Out There; Trust No One. :)

Spuh, I partually agree with you but here's the thing:

A) someone clever and sneaky has an exploit but only uses it on the lower tables or only very rarely at higher tables -> he will probably stay unnoticed but on the other hand, there is little or no impact on the site

B) someone clever and sneaky has an exploit and tries to use it regularly at the higher tables -> he will get noticed after a few tries and get banned -> there is little or no impact on the site

It's not that hard to find suspects. Every time I see weird lags, I check who had the most to gain by the lag. If the same name pops up a few times, there is a case.

Thanks for the tip on rollbar.com.

I'm looking into the lag issues. I noticed it happen twice yesterday on gpokr.com and it was a system wide issue though there were no spikes that I detected. Right now its pointing towards a network issue with the server. I'll continue to look into it.

Jurgen -- we aren't that far apart on this issue, except for one crucial point: if, as I have always suspected, the scenario in your point A is real, I think it does make a difference. I absolutely understand that there are limited resources for mods, and as a result the 0 tables are kinda left alone like the Wild West -- I'm not sure that leaving new players to a hell of cheating and team playing inspires a whole lot of return users and new memberships, frankly. And I've seen teams work the 0 and 100 tables for hours feeding points to a player or two (five wins w/ three or four kills a game adds up, and some of the beneficiaries make it up on the leaderboard pretty well. If you have to make it through the shark tank to make game play here fun, only sharks will stick around for long (or hopeless idealists like myself, but note my lack of membership).
