at 6:26 PM, Tuesday April 7, 2015 EDT Great to hear the feedback on it. Some replies to the feedback below:
> White background and muted colors aren't tiring Could this be solved by adding a color option to switch to muted colors? > build in Deadcode's tools I took basic functionality as most important to get the mobile app going. It's a UI that I could continue to build on so I would definitely try to build in deadcode's awesome tools > Looks like one of these mobile/tablet application layouts It was built to get the mobile app going so it makes sense that it would have this feel. I'd like to eventually transition to this UI for desktop though, but I wouldn't until it felt right. Some advantages in this is no ads and full screen width. What would make it feel less like mobile? > the typefaces aren't consistent and that is minorly bothersome Thanks! I thought it was all helvetica. Actually the chat area is lucida grande, but its this way on the old UI too I believe > on a mobile device, I'd probably appreciate the "find a seat" button being very easily accessible Makes sense > was brown really supposed to be orange all this time, or is that a change? (this is just curiosity) Yes. â??︵â?? > red in game doesn't match red in the roll log and chat Nice catch. You must be a designer. I could use help! > the numbers of dice people have are missing This was a space tradeoff. In this version it only shows excess dice. I believe knowing exact total dice is less important. Let me know if I'm wrong. > the number of points you get is missing (which is important because dom) Yes. Need to figure out how to get this in, in particular with limited space. > a link to the forum maybe? though I'd be less likely to use that on mobile Ya, maybe not on mobile but for sure on desktop > the friends list is really nice tbh and I'd miss it Ya. That needs to be there. > http://imgur.com/bBEK8Gu yep, horizontal layout may be better > put a character limit on the chatbox I think there is one, but its likely long > add a few buttons with common things to say Yep, good idea > you could create a doublecheck feature Maybe something can can be turned on. in this version you can also hold the mouse and drag to the land you want, giving you a way to hold the button until you select the write one .... |

Yes, I need to squeeze in a bunch of other things like tournament leaderboards, friends list, profile info, forum, etc. The IA is going to be tough |

at 5:55 PM, Wednesday April 8, 2015 EDT i like the new view better.
Although it seems more sterile and less playful than the old design. Maybe i'm just crazy. It needs sounds though so i don't miss my turn. Yea and a developer api. |

at 8:54 PM, Wednesday April 8, 2015 EDT Sterile is interesting. I would love to make it more playful. Some similar comments from gpokr. I wonder what it is that makes the old UI more playful... that its not dark? Is dark serious?
What kind of developer API would you like to see? |

at 10:19 PM, Wednesday April 8, 2015 EDT This thread irritates me.
There have been so many valuable suggestions over the years most of which are ignored. It feels like you ignore most of what happens here to be honest - suggestions, complaints, the whole BDK saga where one moderator was ruining your site, the lag problems, trolls like Agent Mulder. For some reason it annoys me that you are so available and willing to take on feedback for something like this, a new UI which is obviously built for your mobile app to get into the mobile market. It's like a telco offering great deals to new customers while the existing customers are left out in the cold. This feedback is coming from someone who has been a member and an active player for the better part of 7 years. I love this game and my money is where my mouth is, that's just my unwanted 2 cents. |

at 11:09 PM, Wednesday April 8, 2015 EDT I'd love to have hooks into the Xhr responses in javascript. Technically I can jerry rig this myself by reprototyping the window.XMLHttpRequest() but it's hacky.
Also; I've been looking at the xhr responses and i'd love to understand more about "gameInfo" object. I imagine it is a grid of asymmetrical squares laid out in sequence. Each number representing a land id. Back end there is something putting it conceptually back to together and figuring out connections to determine validity of attacks. Would love to get the results of that complex calculation so i can have a map of connections. This would help in building predictive functions into DCT; truce detection, style-of-play profiling, etc I'd welcome any exposing of the /api/kdice/ stuff. Not sure if I request against that with generated ?t=Date().getTime() will i throw off sequence of game for that user? Seems like t= is helping you sync requests? Any APIs that expose leaderboard or other stats on players? |

at 3:15 AM, Thursday April 9, 2015 EDT Thrill, this is not news or constructive. How about using this opportunity to actually come up with or resurface these suggestions you mention, instead of rehashing an age old complaint.
It's like you're getting one single wish from a genie, and you're like "fuck you, i want unlimited wishes". I'm betting the genie picks up on the "fuck you" part and grants that one and nothing else. |

at 5:20 PM, Thursday April 9, 2015 EDT I have made my suggestions known countless times.
- The lag is an obvious problem and has been since time immemorial. By lag I mean when the entire site lags out and you can't reconnect for 5 minutes, and also when only your turn lags out and just sits there. So on your end the game hasn't started and you are still waiting for a player but when you refresh the game is 2 rounds in and you are sat out. - All of the issues which came with the timer. He recently fixed it so that you can't stand and sit constantly which was a big one, but imo it should not reset when person 6 sits and stands. It should be shorter, perhaps 30 seconds. Since its inception it has been used to troll and prevent games from starting. The whole point was that when you couldn't get 7 players you could start a game with only 5. You could extend it further to allow players to start a timer themselves to get the ball rolling with 3 or 4 players - tourney style. - Spectator (grey) chat shouldn't be visible to players for a number of reasons. It's fine pre/post game but once there is a game in play I believe it should be like counterstrike where spectators can still chat but the people active in game cannot see it. This is one of the biggest trolling issues on kdice. People fill the chat with off topic clutter which makes it hard to follow the in game chat. People who won't sit still want to try and chat pwn people in game. I don't know what benefit there is to being able to see spectator chat during a game. Sure it's social but it can be social before and after a game starts, or you can simply sit in and put your points on the line. All it does is allow people to troll and harass with no consequence. At least if someone pge's you their points are on the line. - There shouldn't be point limits on tourneys. Sometimes when you have lots of points there is nobody around to sit at the high tables but you are unable to sit in lower limit tourneys either. Your options are to sit an alt, or not play. Some people like alts, some do not. - The statistics and leaderboard used to update live. I have no idea what random intervals they refresh at now. That's to name a few off the top of my head. Feel free to pick them apart. |
