If KDice were to change in one way in June. What should that be?

at 8:38 PM, Sunday June 8, 2014 EDT It's still social if you are involved in the game. You didn't give one valid reason other than you want the ability to troll people basically.
Give people a specific table which is purely for chat. For example - I'm sitting 2k right now, Im Defeated hadn't played for 3 games, yet the chat box was full of him talking about netflix and some girl from a movie who had a face he wanted to fuck. Someone else came to spectate and tell us all how much he hated one of the players, and then those two started abusing each other. Which part of that is necessary / good? It just makes it harder for people who are actually playing to follow the game. Leave spectator chat pre game, that's fine. It can be social, and people in game can talk about out of game stuff. I just think having the option for people to sit out and troll is detrimental to what Ryan is now trying to do, which is rebuild the player base. Moreover, a lot of the time people give themselves way too much credit. Everyone thinks that THEY are the one chat pwning the game, when most of the time they are pointing out obvious moves. The only purpose it serves is to be bloody annoying, and to give bloody annoying people a soap box to stand on. Once you have sat your options are to listen to the bullshit, or flag out and leave. I'll say it again, if you want to influence the game then you should sit at the table and put your points on the line. |

You're right, it's not good for the game at this point, because userbase is shrinking you don't want to have elitism stuff driving people away (like trolling chatboxing). |

An alternative - just make grey chat invisible to players. Like counter strike. Once you are dead you can see both spectator chat and player chat, but as a player you only see player chat. Win win for gameplay and social. |

at 9:58 PM, Sunday June 8, 2014 EDT thrill, maybe I mi's communicated. Here's my tldr: trolling has been punished in the past, even by Ryan. I agree it sucks. Grey-chatting (currently) is critical to the social aspect, you can't simply eliminate it just to get rid of a minor headache: social spam.
Your ideas are good. If I remember right, dead implemented something similar on his site. There was a communal lobby chatbox, then a table-specific chatbox. Worked well, but let's be honest, his site never built enough traffic to really test the system. I think your see-grey-chat-after-you-die idea is great. Seems like it would be a pretty major coding issue, so we'll see what Ryan's reaction is... |

at 9:59 PM, Sunday June 8, 2014 EDT oh, and give mods super-chat ability, so players can always see what they type, grey or not.

at 10:01 PM, Sunday June 8, 2014 EDT why not two chatboxes, a grey one on the right under your little profile thing with all the greys... then you don't have to miss out on grey chat, and greys can still talk to colours as they can still see each other's chat...
but it can be easily ignored since it's not the game chatbox? |

at 2:29 AM, Monday June 9, 2014 EDT How about keeping one chatbox but you have the ability to tweak what you decide to see with a few checkboxes
* no chat * players who sit (or sat but died) * players on your friend list * all players I prefer one chatbox because then you keep the chronology of the conversation In that case, if you change the checkboxes ingame, the old conversation could update as well so that it corresponds with the setting change that you did. This will be more complicated to do for Ryan though. Only doing the checkbox tweaks would already be a big step forward. other chat related suggestions: I think Ryan should add an automatic spam filter: you can't post more than 10 lines in 10 seconds or something, with increasing cooldowns each time you reach the spam limit I also think it would be nice if mods had a world chat ability, that displays in each room. There could be a cooldown of 30 mins or so so it wouldn't become too frequent, but personally, I think it would be helpful if I could post a link to say this poll thread or inform all tables of a certain update. I don't plan on using that feature daily though. Every player should be able to create a list of 10 keywords max that highlight in chat when one of them is typed. You could add a few versions of your name + flag flg falg and stuff |

at 3:16 AM, Monday June 9, 2014 EDT The point isn't just blocking the "chatter". That's irritating, yes, but it doesn't prevent the trolling. That's what both monte and I are saying "sucks", not just the off topic drivel.
If you want to influence the game then sit in, participate, put your points on the line. If you want to troll, gtfo. We all know this site is FULL of annoying people who's sole purpose is to piss people off. Say what you want about me, but I'm always at the table with my points on the line, regardless of who else is at the table. I think it's weak to spectate and troll, and I think it wrecks the game for everyone, not just the target. |

at 8:00 AM, Monday June 9, 2014 EDT Thrill is right about people sitting and leaving. thats annoying.
Trolling is the best part of this game. I completely disagree with taking it out. This is taking a major aspect of this game out. |
