summer banning spree

Even though I prefer letting the top players govern themselves as much as possible, I need to step in again and sound the alarm.
The main bans concern Slinus, Ali/integral and Jesse/nightfury. There has been some massive point funneling, including on the test server. @ Int, you pga'ed and shared yet another account so as your ban comment states, don't expect your old main back soon. Some things go way back until February 2013. It was clear that Jesse helped Slinus to her first gold but also that some others helped too. Anyway, I left it all unpunished because I stand by my rule that I only want to ban when I'm completely sure about my case. It's hard to look inside someone else's brain (or chatlogs) so that's why some people get the benefit of the doubt. But that doesn't mean things don't add up or that I "forget" about stuff over time. Everything came together this month and I think it's time to end some things that are going out of control. Some banned people might yell "Hey but I didn't do anything this month, why do I get a ban now?". Well maybe that's not ideal but it is still deserved. Also I expect some mad people saying they don't pga, only otf. Well, maybe you tell yourself that and it might actually fool yourself. Some people seem to think that pga means never attacking each other, or always saving each other or constantly communicating via an external chatbox. Well if you put it that way, no one pga's and everyone is otf. OK so here's the thing. There's a whole bunch of players that I could have given a warning ban too. Again, I only banned when completely sure and I hope I would have been wrong about all or most of the others anyway. I'm not even going list a bunch of warned people. Everyone should just assume they are warned and if you think you're playing ok, fine, please enjoy yourself. But it might just be a good thing to evaluate your playstyle with your biggest otf (if you have any) now and then. And I know it's hard to draw the line between pga and otf. It's impossible to say OK you can do this but not this. Every thing is so game related and it depends on the frequency of the otf favors that you give. So, in conclusion, I can't explain or define where the line between pga and otf is. BUT WHAT I CAN DEFINE is when someone has clearly crossed the line. So if you want to be safe, stay as far away from the imaginary line as you can. That doesn't mean you can't trust or truce people that you know. It simply means you attack them when it's your best move to win the game. Or when they don't flag you but you have a +2 stack on them to clean up their entire base. Anyway, it actually shouldn't be THAT hard to have some common sense. PS: I hardly banned any alts of people but I expect everyone to not play alts until the end of the month. If I see alts being played anyway, they will be banned too and the first ban could become longer. PPS: thanks Sophie/Slinus for owning up to the cheating (after a bit of denying at first :P) and accepting the ban. |

at 4:35 PM, Wednesday August 21, 2013 EDT The point of a ban is to give a player a time out so
1) he (or she! I definitely should be adding she here) can take break from KDice and enjoy real life a bit extra. Trust me, it's really not a bad thing to do. 2) maybe they can do some thinking and let everything sink in. I'm willingly naïve in thinking most cheaters are good people but sometimes the hunger for points or whatever has made them forget what the fun in this game is. 3) draw a line under what has happened and start fresh. That's not completely the case for remorseless repeated offenders but other than that, everyone deserves an extra chance. So forbidding to play alts too (regardless of old or new ones) is not done to be an ass to the banned person. The point is to have a positive effect with the ban. For players that face a long ban of their main(s) like slinus, I usually propose a gradual reintroduction program. I can definitely understand that someone will revolt against a complete ban for 3 months for example. So depending on how they take the ban (admitting to what was done, taking the ban like a man or lady, seeing the problem, etc, ...) I allow banned players to play again on an alt. Sometimes a secret where they can't tell anyone. The point is to play alone for a while and feel what it's like to get screwed by otf/pga or to try and win without your real name. Then I let them prove themselves on a normal alt but don't allow to go for high medals. Depending on how things evolve, mains get unbanned slower or faster. |

Huh? What sense does that make? Why else would I play? |

ever heard of playing for fun? or gaining respect and trust back from mods and the other players? |

at 11:53 PM, Wednesday August 21, 2013 EDT Excuse me, but what am I supposed to be thinking about? This is a game that claims no importance in my life. I will put no moral thought to this game, as that would be a monumental waste of my time. I play how I want, always have. When I feel like supporting a player I do, when I do not I don't. I am not known for PGA either.
Also, you honestly are the one that needs to find other things to do outside of this game. The fact that you have time to watch endless amounts of games, get a trophy of your own, and play warsocial is beyond me. Don't tell me I need a break when you sit on your ass and play and watch this game for endless amounts of hours. |
