at 11:21 AM, Monday May 23, 2011 EDT Why not drive into the city and get a hotel with parking? Or park some place like the airport (EWK for example) and take the train in. Staying outside of the city makes no sense if you intend to actually visit the city.
Also thrax: "If you're looking for $129.00 per night near a train station, prepare to not be out after dark." This is bullshit. Its really not dangerous walking around midtown manhattan at night. A budget hotel near 34th and 7th might not be comfortable, but it certainly wouldn't be dangerous. |

at 12:06 PM, Monday May 23, 2011 EDT It really wouldn't be a big deal to stay outside of the city and take the train or drive in. But if you don't care about the hotel price, then I'm with boogy. Get a reasonably-priced hotel, although to be honest with you even the "reasonable" prices are a bit absurd.

at 12:18 PM, Monday May 23, 2011 EDT wife and i have stayed in the westin times square, was pricey but nice and central. for a little less money, we pricelined 3.5* and up down in the financial district, and stayed at both the marriott and the courtyard down there. courtyard was excellent, marriott was decent. its pretty quiet down there on the weekends, and youll need to get on the subway to get to anywhere fun, but we really liked it (especially the courtyard, they took good care of us.)
and if you love love love chinese food, take a day and go to flushing. but only if youre a fanatic. best musical weve been to was mary poppins surprisingly. |

at 2:10 PM, Monday May 23, 2011 EDT boogy, you show me a nice hotel for $129 that isn't in a shoddy part of NYC proper and I'll back off from my position. I've been to NYC and not in the 70's & 80's. You make the city sound like a safe haven for children to go run and play without supervision. NYC is expensive........I didn't say there weren't nice areas, but you have to pay for them. Stop arguing just for the sake of arguing.
