Deadcode's KDice add-on (beta)

I've created a KDice add-on that allows you to keep track of users and their game play.

My motivation behind creating this tool is that I often forget users and their tendencies. Some players stab; some players are abusive, some players are friendly, etc. It is a huge advantage to know this information before going into the game. Unfortunately my memory is not strong enough to recall all previous games I've played with people.

So I created a tool that remembers for you.

Here is an example of it in use:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/17/screenshot20110515at300.png/

The add-on currently allows you to store information about individuals while in game. But I plan on expanding it to also allow you to see the opinions voiced by your friends/trusted users.

I know some people are thinking; "Hey isn't there already a review section to kdice?". Yes there is; however, as many veterans to this game have come to realize; the review section is pretty much just a wall for angry beginners to voice their angst and real quality reviews by yourself/friends are quickly lost in the vast ocean of non-actionable reviews.

This is the first version of this add-on and I hope to continue improving it over time.

At this point; I'm looking for some early adopters to start using it and voicing opinions about features they would like to see.

Ryan is currently unavailable to improve this game; so I figured why not have community sourced improvements in the meantime.

Requirements:

1. Firefox (Chrome will be supported eventually; please tell me if this is important to you)

2. Greasemonkey (A simple extension for firefox; easily installed at the following link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/)

Once you have the above requirements; my Kdice add-on can be installed at the following link; very simple; just press "Install".

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/102923

Please feel free to contact me via this thread; in game (deadcode); via the userscript website; or via email (dustin at nov8rix dot com).

Usage Instructions:

1. Press "Update Players" while in a game.
2. Green boxes will appear on the upper left of each players avatar.
3. Click the green box and a dialog will appear allowing to you view the current notes you have taken on the users; as well as the ability to modify them and save.

Please excuse the crude nature of this release. I literally started on this tool yesterday. Let me know when you encounter bugs (giving me detailed information about how you encountered the bug will help me fix it swiftly and is much appreciated). Also please give me feedback. What direction would you like this tool to grow in?

As a side note; if there is anyone out there with graphics knowledge that wants to collaborate on this project please let me know. I could definitely use some help making this product easy on the eyes.

I hope everyone finds this tool as valuable as I do. Thank you and enjoy!

also spamming could go into the "jerk" category but you could create a seperate category for that since that is bannable

maybe a category like offensive avatar or offensive name could help me identify these problems fast too

It will probably added later but there will probably have to be an option to review people that actually aren't sitting (annoying chatters or people who just got kicked out of a game and start missbehaving only after the game)

Sounds like there is a market for a 'mod-only' add-on

nice one!

i agree with kreuz on the colored boxes. that would really make it useful imo.

as for the graphics part. you can use ryan's css-classes so it fits in with the kdice style..

eh, thx, I appreciate that veta

and Deadcode ,If this thing is up and running, you should think about how you are going to visiualize the gathered data at the table.

The red orange yellow green button would already be great but you could push it further and add a few small icons that appear if certain conditions are met, for example: * with 5 or more reviews reviews left: if 50% of reviewers mention a trait -> show that trait icon * with 10 or more reviews reviews left: if 40% of reviewers mention a trait -> show that trait icon * with 25 or more reviews reviews left: if 30% of reviewers mention a trait -> show that trait icon * etc, exact % numbers will need to be finetuned but the idea behind it is that a trait icon will show if a significant number of reviews mentions the trait

you could do that for S(tabber) P(ga) C(hatpwner) R(acist) W(eakflagger) or something. On the other hand, maybe this will overcrowd the avatar region and keeping it more simple might be the key. you could also make it supercomplicated and have default % which can be adapted by each user. I Just wanted to throw the idea in the discussion.

PS: Maybe Ryan could reward contributors like kakku man, stormlord and now deadcode by a simple free membership. It's not much but it would show the appreciation these people deserve for their work. To the very least, I will speak only for myself but I think I can speak for a few more (less vocal) Kdicers and express my gratitude for your efforts to make this site a more enjoyable place. Thanks guys!

Appreciate it Jurgen.

I know it may sound odd; but I'd prefer to keep paying for my subscription. I'd explain; but it would probably bring the thread off topic. :)

I love your suggestions. I'm definitely thinking that the next update will contain improved indicators above and beyond the green box. My personal version already has a different color to indicate whether the user has any notes or not. I like the idea of icons etc. Perhaps they can be toggled on and off quickly to avoid always covering the avatar.

I'm actually busy working on my own company during the week. I made a promise to myself that I would focus on my business during the week; and I would pursue this during my free time (weekends). However sometimes I cheat; and sneak in some changes on my breaks.

jurgen, I believe you want this to be something its not, you want it to be a ranking system. but what it is is a notebook which is personalised. I personally would rather have the notebook than the ranking
