I've created a KDice add-on that allows you to keep track of users and their game play.
My motivation behind creating this tool is that I often forget users and their tendencies. Some players stab; some players are abusive, some players are friendly, etc. It is a huge advantage to know this information before going into the game. Unfortunately my memory is not strong enough to recall all previous games I've played with people. So I created a tool that remembers for you. Here is an example of it in use: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/17/screenshot20110515at300.png/ The add-on currently allows you to store information about individuals while in game. But I plan on expanding it to also allow you to see the opinions voiced by your friends/trusted users. I know some people are thinking; "Hey isn't there already a review section to kdice?". Yes there is; however, as many veterans to this game have come to realize; the review section is pretty much just a wall for angry beginners to voice their angst and real quality reviews by yourself/friends are quickly lost in the vast ocean of non-actionable reviews. This is the first version of this add-on and I hope to continue improving it over time. At this point; I'm looking for some early adopters to start using it and voicing opinions about features they would like to see. Ryan is currently unavailable to improve this game; so I figured why not have community sourced improvements in the meantime. Requirements: 1. Firefox (Chrome will be supported eventually; please tell me if this is important to you) 2. Greasemonkey (A simple extension for firefox; easily installed at the following link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/) Once you have the above requirements; my Kdice add-on can be installed at the following link; very simple; just press "Install". http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/102923 Please feel free to contact me via this thread; in game (deadcode); via the userscript website; or via email (dustin at nov8rix dot com). Usage Instructions: 1. Press "Update Players" while in a game. 2. Green boxes will appear on the upper left of each players avatar. 3. Click the green box and a dialog will appear allowing to you view the current notes you have taken on the users; as well as the ability to modify them and save. Please excuse the crude nature of this release. I literally started on this tool yesterday. Let me know when you encounter bugs (giving me detailed information about how you encountered the bug will help me fix it swiftly and is much appreciated). Also please give me feedback. What direction would you like this tool to grow in? As a side note; if there is anyone out there with graphics knowledge that wants to collaborate on this project please let me know. I could definitely use some help making this product easy on the eyes. I hope everyone finds this tool as valuable as I do. Thank you and enjoy! |

at 3:03 PM, Thursday June 2, 2011 EDT My rationale for wanting an option to turn off all avatars is two-fold:
1) My sons are 11 and 9, and I'm not going to let them see the porn avatars. My older son asks me all the time when he can play kdice, and I tell him probably never. The avatars are the primary reason why. You might get more parents to let their kids play if the parents could turn off some of the bad stuff. The swearing in chat is also bad but not as big of a deal, there's really no way to shield them completely from swearing anyway, so it's either let them play games that have chat or don't. But if there was a filter I'd certainly have it on for them. 2) I *constantly* click off all the avatars. Animated gifs and other avatars specifically designed to distract you or be annoying are just stupid. It would be much more convenient to just turn them off permanently. I did try fixing this myself with a hosts file entry at one point, but then the avatars look broken, and who knows what other graphics might be in the same location that would also break (flags, etc.). The smileys would be fine. |

at 5:19 PM, Thursday June 2, 2011 EDT Proxy; it sounds like a very good idea. I can make a feature that disables all avatars; however it is a little more difficult then it sounds.
I do everything on a timer; so for example; every 3 seconds the add-on wakes up and checks for additional players; chat etc. During this three second delay; it would be possible for a avatar to show and then instantly (with in 3 seconds) be removed. Is this a worthy goal or is this still not a good solution? Btw; I'll continue to think about alternative solutions to this issue; if anyone else has any let me know. I might try a solution with a very fast delay and see how it benchmarks. I'll definitely look into this on the weekend and see if I can get a version out with this feature soon. |

at 6:04 PM, Sunday August 7, 2011 EDT Yeah I haven't worked on it in a while. I promise I'll issue an update soon with some new features. I also plan on making it open source and giving access to all the developers in the community.
