at 7:58 AM, Monday May 2, 2011 EDT In any case: I think we (the "normal" people) don't have enough information to have a well-founded opinion on the whole OBL subject.
(i.e. why did it take "them" nearly ten years to kill him when obviously, he had a property in Pakistan or if it really can be counted as Obama's success that he's killed now) However, I'm convinced that it is good news that he's dead. OBL was a dangerous person and only his death stops him from being involved in more attacks and murders. I'm against death penalty, but I think this death was "legitimate". |

at 8:37 AM, Monday May 2, 2011 EDT i really think there will be a drawback of troops now. there was a significant portion of americans, however backwoods, that wanted this war simply to catch (or kill) OBL. now that the deed is done, i can easily see this largish voting block losing interest in our troops being in the middle east. and thats a lot of votes.
so i think its now a lot easier for people to campaign on withdrawing troops without the negative backlash of losing that block of voters. so i think this is something to celebrate, cus it will lead to less of our troops in afghanistan. sucks for afghanistan maybe, which might end up with more civil unrest, who knows. but the average (stupid) american just wanted OBL dead, and didnt give a shit about afghan govt. and the world pretty much agrees that OBL hasnt been the biggest threat in awhile, that hes just a figurehead. the biggest threat now is in yemen, but until they pull off something major, americans wont be rushing into voting for someone to start any crazy wars. |

at 9:28 AM, Monday May 2, 2011 EDT Congrats usa, your justice and revenge is done. Don't forget at what cost though, to achieve the justice for the 3k lives lost on sept 11th it's cost 2k lives of allied soldiers and at lowest estimates 60k lives of innocent afghan lives (civilians).
Obama says it is justice because he is a mass murderer. Please no one think I am anti usa, but I think even the most patriotic person would have to agree the loss of another 2k lives for justice is pretty senseless and not much to celebrate. Also where is the justice for the innocent mass murder of the innocent afghanis. It's all just so sad man is capable of doing this to each other. It makes me think of 2 fleas fighting over who is the boss of the dog they are on. Revenge will breed revenge and hatred will breed hatred.god bless and be with all those who have lost and are hurting on both sides |

I became an atheist in my college days mainly because of Ayn Rand. My comeback to the Lord was mainly through C.S. Lewis. I recommend in particular his books That Hideous Strength Surprised by Joy, the Great Divorce, and The Pilgrim's Regress. Ayn Rand is dead-on in her analysis of human nature, and at least she kept me insulated from all that nonsense about secular humanism. Atlas Shrugged could have been written by a Christian if you take out most of the sex and replace Galt's oath with something on the line of "my life is mine to lay down or pick up". |
