Dead appealed to the constitution so I demonstrated how not only is that a fallacious appeal, you could use the argument from the constitution to argue any position on the topic. You read the context right?

Dead asked what rights the government had in relation to this topic so I noted the generally agreed purpose of the government was to protect it's citizens... Even from foreign and domestic corporations undermining their welfare. He questioned the rights of the government, that is to say it's charter or constitution so besides noting that a government should protect it's people, I also noted the position of a famous enlightenment philosopher who coincidentally influenced the forefathers who chartered the governments of the US. Before and after the constitution.

The "generally agreed" idea that the government should protect the rights of its citizens should encompass a mechanism for protection of the rights of the citizens from the total universe of threats to rights of citizens, including ---- the government. Namely, a constitution, which you regard, in a transition taking only two sentences, from a product of Lockeian thought to total bullshit.

How should a government protect its citzens against threats to their rights that it itself might pose?

The government should be by the people and for the people. If it isn't then I suggest you stage a revolution against revolution.

The government or any sort of societal organization has always been for the common good, maintaining order, and generally to protect citizens from any possible abuse. This ranges from physical abuse to yes even economic and societal abuse. What do you make of the civil rights movements and trust busting skrum?

Should abuses of the market be tolerated? Is it fair to monopolize a market or price fix? Should we as a society allow these fiscal abuses to occur? What about wealth condensation and wage slavery?

When you get to your laptop, try especially to give an apt reply to the question as how does the government protect the people against the government?

I just said that a republican government should be revolted if it becomes tyrannous.
