Do you really think that Republicans are that different from Democrats? Obviously on the surface you have your major differences in ideology, but the fact that you support Obama so loyally and think that Republicans are so very evil makes me think you are quite ignorant. Did you not notice the whole launching 122 missiles into Libya thing? What's up with that imperialist bullshit? Oh and how bout the whole economic "stimulus" plan? Can you really argue that it was any different than Bush's bailout? Throughout his campaign, Barack emphasized how he would put the money into the hands of the people, not the other way around. What about all his talks about moving away from the heated bipartisanship and bringing about cooperation to advance our national agenda? Bottom line is that Obama is full of shit. Everything he says is a load, and if you don't see past that, you are a moron. You guys need to get over your political parties, they mean nothing. Start voting on the issues.

Anyways, I know this hasn't been the most articulate post in the world, but I'll leave with you a quote from 2007:

?The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch.?

I'll let you guess who said it.

skrum is an educated believer. most common believers think that money is the root of all evil, whereas an educated one will point out the correct statement from jesus. well said, skrum.

if you arent a believer, im even more impressed by your knowledge on the subject.

your musings did make me wonder though. money definitely wasnt around in the garden of evil, so it technically wasnt the root of that evil. so the word 'all' must be interpreted accordingly.

id like to hijack this thread (really i just want it to get to 100, and im bored of greek/veta political stuff.)

root of adams sin = ??
root of eves sin = ??
root of lucifers sin = ??

i realize thats probably a trollish question, but since im committed to this thread getting 100, ill give it a shot anyways.

angels =/= humans
the way god created angels, they dont have the same salvation story as humans (we sin, jesus perfect sacrifice, we believe&submit, we forgiven of all, yay heaven). angels sin, angels get eternal damnation.

at least i think thats what i remember from sunday school a few years back.

Anyone who's read the bible in it's entirety and believes it literally belongs in an asylum. I'd wager anyone normal who reads the bible without any preconceived notions wuickly realizes it's the adulterated musings of a bunch of bedouins... super imposed with the roman government's agenda.

Monte as a father who loves his children do you really believe in doling out infinite punishment for finite crimes? If god really loves us like a father why does he give eternal punishment to his children?

as a father, yes, it is hard to believe that.

but in a black/white mathematic world, i can understand the reasoning.

in order to be in the presence of a perfect God, one must be wholly righteous. thats just who he is.

the optimistic christian would say, well, God is soooo nice, because he gives us all a chance at redemption, instead of focusing on him still passing judgment on people who refuse the offer.

sry im all over the place, its been a long time since i was a missionary, and im a little sleep-dep'd with the new kid.

maybe i should re-read the parable of the prodigal son. maybe theres a passage somewhere concerning whether or not God feels bad about people who dont return to him. i should know this off the top of my head, sry im rusty. been awhile (altho thats not an excuse)

sry for the lack of bible refs, but im p sure a seasoned pastor would take the angle that:

1) god is like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, who yearns for his son to come back
2) god is like bruce almighty, who cannot change a persons will (pastors are sneaky nowadays and try to throw in anecdotes from what they think are popular societal references... like bruce almighty... but sadly they dont talk much about jen anistons big boob scene.)
3) its the prodigal son that refuses to return to the father, so its not on him.
4) love isnt just tolerance of screwing up, and
5) there are rules, such as required perfection.
6) theres a balance in Gods identity between fatherhood/judge/creator/whatever, and there are some rules about who God is.

(sry if i sound too proselytizing)

So god, unlike you, does not live his children unconditionally? No offense but that religion sounds terrible.

Also I'm pretty sure a tenet of Christianity is that god loves people unconditionally. What I'm trying to get you to reconcile is how a mother and father, who do love their son unconditionally, can still love him even if he gets drunk, drives, and kills some people... And how god would give this same son of his infinite punishment. This is an inherent contradiction is it not? One of many in the basic notions of the Christian god.

So I ask you again: how do you reconcile a good god (who unconditionally loves all people) with the idea of hell. Satan got jealous of god so he tried to get his own followers, so he was sent to hell forever, how is infinite punishment for a finite crime just? If god is good shouldn't that mean he is just as well?
