Do you really think that Republicans are that different from Democrats? Obviously on the surface you have your major differences in ideology, but the fact that you support Obama so loyally and think that Republicans are so very evil makes me think you are quite ignorant. Did you not notice the whole launching 122 missiles into Libya thing? What's up with that imperialist bullshit? Oh and how bout the whole economic "stimulus" plan? Can you really argue that it was any different than Bush's bailout? Throughout his campaign, Barack emphasized how he would put the money into the hands of the people, not the other way around. What about all his talks about moving away from the heated bipartisanship and bringing about cooperation to advance our national agenda? Bottom line is that Obama is full of shit. Everything he says is a load, and if you don't see past that, you are a moron. You guys need to get over your political parties, they mean nothing. Start voting on the issues.

Anyways, I know this hasn't been the most articulate post in the world, but I'll leave with you a quote from 2007:

?The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch.?

I'll let you guess who said it.

I'll call myself an American anyplace, anytime.....whether I'm damned for it or not. With great power comes great responsibility. Sometimes we've used that power wisely, sometimes we haven't. However, were it not for this great nation, Europe would look A LOT differently now than it is. So would Asia. So would the world for that matter.

The great thing about our country is that we always rise to the occassion and whatever change is required to meet that cause happens. Are we perfect? Fuck no. But we get it right enough to make things better. You can squabble about this and that, but overall I'd rather live here than anywhere else on earth (save for a few nice beaches in the Caribbean). If you don't share this pride, then I agree with Monte and I welcome your departure. If you think the USA is on its way out of being a super power, I'll ask you check-in on us again in a quarter century and make your statement again. The rest of the world is catching up, but that is a good thing, isn't it? Why should we be the ONLY great place to live? I don't want the world to be that way and I know you don't either. We don't need to dominate the globe for me to be proud of my country.

Anyways, this is all moot. Once the aliens land we'll be one big world government competing with the rest of the planets in the Intergalactic Star Council. Then John Lenin will be happy that the world is one.

Well my pride in my country often tends to stem from different sources than Joe or Rob's I echo the fact that even at the height of Americas international unpopularity I still would have been proud to call myself an American.

if you dont like it then fix it. not by tearing it down but by building it up. surely a community based on strategy could come up with a constructive idea or two.

ill throw this out there. how about we start voting in new representative under the mandate of a populist agenda

Hypothetically if France didn't come to the rescue of the American revolutionaries we'd probably still have continued to be a colony in which case britain would've been that much more powerful leading up to world war one. I won't discuss ww2 because let's be honest any alteration in world war one's outcome would change the proceeding global political geography.

So anyway the issue isn't the country or it's history it's the fact that it's almost impossible to foresee a scenario where the US stops becoming a corporatist nation. Bank of America is pretty much a syndicate already. Isn't it ironic how the perennial powers of the western world only momentarily lost their dominance to two backwards nations like the US and Russia?

Perennial meaning repeating powers, IMO the assyrian, egyptian, persia, Hellenistic empires aren't perrenial. They didn't rise and fall and rise. That being said there certainly is a tradition of Mediterranean powers.
