Do you really think that Republicans are that different from Democrats? Obviously on the surface you have your major differences in ideology, but the fact that you support Obama so loyally and think that Republicans are so very evil makes me think you are quite ignorant. Did you not notice the whole launching 122 missiles into Libya thing? What's up with that imperialist bullshit? Oh and how bout the whole economic "stimulus" plan? Can you really argue that it was any different than Bush's bailout? Throughout his campaign, Barack emphasized how he would put the money into the hands of the people, not the other way around. What about all his talks about moving away from the heated bipartisanship and bringing about cooperation to advance our national agenda? Bottom line is that Obama is full of shit. Everything he says is a load, and if you don't see past that, you are a moron. You guys need to get over your political parties, they mean nothing. Start voting on the issues.

Anyways, I know this hasn't been the most articulate post in the world, but I'll leave with you a quote from 2007:

?The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch.?

I'll let you guess who said it.

i would say that thrax is presenting us with the null hypothesis here: our lives are on average 80 years long, lets just focus on doing good for that time.

judeochristians are going with the hypothesis that life is infinite.

scientists go with the hypothesis that matter/energy is infinite. at least thats what i assume their hypothesis is, as ive never heard a scientist assert that matter/energy came from nothing.

fair enough?

Well, I'm presenting that I really don't care about how existence began, and I don't have a clue what happens to me when I die, so I might as well make the most of my time on Earth.

now shit is getting deep. bringing time into the discussion makes my brain hurt. :P

curiosity killed the cat... so what are the 6 popular definitions of time? (feel free to veta me to a wikipedia article)

if time has a start, and all the mass and energy existed at the start, then the mass is neither infinite, or came from nothing

yah thrax i can appreciate that viewpoint. and yours is more noble than the standard 'eat drink and be merry' line, since you want to positive affect the people around you, whether your family or the nation you live in.

kreuz, doesnt that beg the question, what happened to start time? btw, time having a start/end is a very western hemisphere thing. eastern hemisphere is much more aligned with time being cyclical. but as we all agree, those eastern freaks are wayyy off the charts when it comes to science ;)

in physics one often define stuff by looking at different aspect of it. this is why light is both a wave and a particle.

some of the definitions of time comes from its aspects.

1.a classical mechanics;
time is simply defined by motion, and should be neutral for frame of refenrence

1.b modern physics
same as 1.a exept that einsteins relativity theory is taken into account, and time is thus relative.

2. spacetime
there are several different spacetime theories, but in general they look at time as a strict dimenton, with the extra rule that you cannot travel back in time. this comes from einsteins relativity theories

3. arrow of time
things that have happend is fixed, things that will happen is uncertain. in this scenario, time is defined by the increasing entropy of the universe. by this definition, time starts when the entropy is at the minimum. therefore time starts at the big bang

4. quantum physics

(LOOOONG and I do not understand that many aspects of it)

5.Hartle–Hawking boundary condition
states simply that both space and time is finite, and the physics works just fine

6.maxwells time
comes from maxwells equations. has to do with ligth

ofcourse, there are several other, and different variations on them.

time is even less understood than gravity, the cannot say why we have gravity, only how it works, with time we even have trouble defining how it works

hell, I am not even sure that it is not possible to change the past

there is a timeflux thery, which states that time is 2-4 dimentions, depending on how you can change past and future events, they are closely linked to multiverse theory

Multiverse........that reminds me of that show Sliders........Kari Wurher was in that show........HOT!!!

yah i took a couple quantum graduate courses, and i cant even begin to fathom the concept of time there. im still limited to the basic concepts of relativistic time as used in quantum.
