Republicans and Democrats aren't that different, they're both deluded but in different ways. Republicans are deluded into believing or professing farces, while Democrats are deluded into believing people might act rationally. Ultimately the fortune 500 companies and the millionaires who fund our politicians have all the power and they will get what they want (Reaganomics makes no fucking sense).
So to all the diehard Republicans out there I pose you this question: Would you rather have Obama be the President for the next 6 years OR would you rather have had Bush for another two terms? |

at 1:42 PM, Wednesday December 8, 2010 EST You need to be in a simple text editor. Font doesn't matter - it matter what character you're using.

at 1:46 PM, Wednesday December 8, 2010 EST I believe so, although it's been a long time since I've tried that (I'm on a mac now) and I just don't remember.
Your other option is to delete and retype the special characters after you paste your post in, although that's both annoying and error-prone. |

at 3:05 PM, Wednesday December 8, 2010 EST "What you don't understand Rob, and most other fanatical Republicans, is that welfare ultimately benefits you. The people that receive welfare on the aggregate spend 100% of that money and that ultimately boosts the economy, as well as achieving the morally right goal of taking care of the poor. Win win."
The only people entitlements benefit are those receiving them, and there is no rhyme or reason as to who gets them. Your moral argument is a complete fallacy as well. When people are forced to do an act (paying taxes in this case) you can not pin the results of that act back on the person. I know you aren't taking a moral or religious stance on the issue, but you did kind of open the door a little bit. I will step through. for those of you who don't wish to read this argument just pick up after the big gap in text. Entitlements actually deter goodwill and charity. Most people, when they give, give what they have that is extra. Higher taxes mean people have less extra money which means they are able to give less. I very strong argument can be made that higher taxes and increased entitlements cause a harmful mount of resentment and decrease the incentive to be productive. On a strictly religious perspective, these programs are harmful to the community both spiritually and socially. Spiritually speaking people are given less opportunity to be charitable and to help their less fortunate neighbors. Also compulsory charity undeniably causes a loathing towards where the money is spent. For example if I got to choose where my tax dollars went, I would never choose to give it to abortion clinics, or as food stamps to coke and meth users. I in fact find the fact that the government is enabling these behaviors to be appalling. I might however decide to give money to adoption agencies, and rehab clinics. As a result I would probably get a warm fuzzy feeling and be more inclined to give in the future. On a more social side of things. With the government throwing out entitlements there is no connection between beneficiary and benefactor. Whereas when it is a community of people working together to help the less fortunate, there is a lot more interaction. The receivers actually have the opportunity to see the sacrifices that the givers are making, and they have a chance to thank the givers and be appreciative. With wellfare and entitlements, well just look up the word "entitlement". Instead of being thankful and gracious, recipients of funds are indignant and feel as though they deserve it. "Poor me i dont have anything and you have lots of stuff so give me your stuff" is the basic mentality that i have observed from people collecting income from social programs. Ok back on track. I am going to make a series of assumptions which you, Veta, may or may not agree with. I will only repost to back the ones you wish to disagree with for the sake of saving time. 1: The vast majority of private sector jobs are created by the people in higher tax brackets. 2: In general people are greedy and will look out for their own well being above that of others. 3: o shit I have a chemistry final in 3 hours. I need to make notecards, I'll finish this tonight. |

**** The GOP is the party of fear, and don't claim otherwise. Sure all politicians thrive on creating fear, but no single group has done more to create a culture of fear than the GOP and the soldiers like Rove, Limbaugh and Hannity. Both parties are retarded and individuals that think either of the parties really care about helping the common man are the ones that are deluded. While I lean left I am very disappointed in the Democrats the last decade, they have no balls. Despite that I cannot by the brand of ignorance the other side is selling. I guess the pussies will continue to get my votes for now. *** Dude, your sentiments are the same as mine EXACTLY. This country has been split down the middle purposefully for years by the rulers in an effort to divide the nation. So that when all hell breaks loose, the idiots who solely identify themselves as Democrats or Republicans can kill one another while the ruling party "puppet masters" escape unscathed from the mayhem. People in the U.S. need to first identify themselves as Americans, then take a close look at the ruling corporations that control both parties. Then boycott the corporations that do the most harm to the nation. |
