The TAZD is explained on my Wall. At least 35 regular games played in the month is required to qualify for the TAZD.

at 9:34 PM, Monday August 16, 2010 EDT You would be at the top of the "bad" list but your TAZD would not be as big as it would be if you were at the top of the "good" list with 100% firsts.

at 11:03 PM, Monday August 16, 2010 EDT gb, to answer your question, yes, you would be at the top of this list with 100% 7ths, provided you've gotten enough of them, since it factors in the number of games played.
Getting additional 7ths actually makes your score BETTER. heh. Skrum, did I satisfactorily answer your question? |

at 11:44 PM, Monday August 16, 2010 EDT The "norm" for the TAZD ranges from about 7% firsts to 23% sevenths. Meaning the "normal" zero-datum player. But some zero-datum players may be worse than "normal", with firsts less than 7% and sevenths more than 23%, and their TAZD's would be bigger. These would be on "the dark side of the TAZD".
Incidentally, a player with 14% across the board and 35 games would have a TAZD of 1121. If that player were to play 3500 games with straight 14%'s, his TAZD would be 11210. |

at 12:05 AM, Tuesday August 17, 2010 EDT The TAZD has a set of data from which deviation is measured. The problem is, if the 7th 'norm' percentage is 23%, having an actual percentage of 12% is equivalent to having an actual percentage of 34%.
There is no skill needed to achieve a high 7ths percentage. |

there is no use in a two-tailed test if you are unable to distinguish between the two tails. |

at 7:38 AM, Tuesday August 17, 2010 EDT Shevar:
You can distinguish between the two tails. Distributions that have two tails can use one-tailed tests. The t-distribution has two tails which are readily distinguishable because one has a negative deviation and one has a positive deviation. The chi-square has two tails, but usually only the right-hand tail is used. In the right-hand tail, deviation from the norm is indication of a skill (but we don't necessarily know what kind or kinds). In the left-hand tail, extremely close correspondence to the norm indicates an attempt to meet quotas, and implies another kind of skill or skills. The TAZD does not use all the available data, so it is a limited measure of the various skills. |
