monte:

The TAZD is a two-tailed test. It is possible to low-ball the TAZD. If enough people are interested, I can split the standings and have regular and low-ball divisions.

I know this is flawed because I consistently do poorly in this. ;-)

For your information, here are the TAZD's of the bottom 100, with the usual condition that there have to be at least 35 games. None of these appear to be lowballing the TAZD, so these are a measure of negative skill. The higher the TAZD, the more negative the skill.

Vermont:
If variation from the norm is not accounted for by skill, what accounts for it?

Monte states is well. For some reason you assume that all variation from the norm is positive, while I believe almost everyone else agrees that the direction of the variation is a crucial factor, particularly for first place.

To answer your question more directly, variation from the norm can also be due to _lack of_ skill.

There's no such thing as negative skill. There is only skill, and lack of skill.

Monte states iT well. I used my secret mod edit button to spell that wrong on purpose, actually.

Can we do a TAZD on the kdice forum, using any other internet forum as the zero datum? I bet it gets a really high score!

There is such as thing as negative skill. Negative skill is putting in a worse performance than someone who is acting randomly.

Selecting ten stocks that earn more than ten stocks resulting from ten darts thrown at the stock quotes page is positive skill. Selecting ten stocks that earn less than stocks resulting from ten darts thrown at the stock quotes page is negative skill.

I think this is more of a semantics discussion. There can be negative skill in a given context, such as the one skrum mentions, but I can understand philosophically the point chloe makes.

Everyone is right! We all win! Everyone gets a trophy!

Sorry, I should have said "There is no such thing as negative skill in kdice."

I can understand philosphically the point chloes makes, too, even though she is wrong.
