From 2006:

"One challenge in performing any calculations is agreeing on the number of undocumented workers. Only estimates exist, and they range from 9 million to 20 million. The conventional estimate is 11 million. But no one really knows for sure.

By way of contrast, the Bureau of Labor Statistics calculates how many people out of a workforce of 143 million are unemployed. Last month, 7,193,000, or 4.8 percent, were out pounding the pavement."

Let's say 11 million is still too high and we cut it in half to 5.5 million. Let's also say that only 75% of thos jobs will be filled by Americans. That's a little over 4 million jobs out there for the taking. Unemployment would drop to about.......say......7%?

Far be it for me to mess with your backfin, I just think the person doing that work for you should be an appropriately compensated person in the country legally. (I know, craziness!)

No it's not. The common argument is that american's won't do the job *at same crappy pay and no benefits that illegal immigrants will*.

ok i am breaking my promise, and yes i am a troll.

I just want anyone who thinks that the US violates basic human rights to read this:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/feb/01/northkorea

I know I am using N. Korea as a total scapegoat, but the fact that a minority of Americans even know what is going on around the world shows how horrible our democratic deliberation is.

The argument that there are jobs Americans won't do is made quite commonly, whether you assert otherwise or not. I certainly don't agree with that statement, but pretending that it isn't an argument consistently used by certain groups is just plain untrue.

There are a shit ton of Mexicans around my parts, they really do great lawn work but that shit isn't cheap, don't make the mistake that all illegals work for slave wages, some of them are smart and know what they can charge for their skills.
