at 10:13 PM, Tuesday July 13, 2010 EDT No, I'm supporting competitive integrity amongst business entities in a private industry. I'm not suggesting the Royals stop playing baseball yet continue to get paid. If you can't field 32 competitive teams then there should be less teams. If evry team in MLB decided to have a $200 million payroll (like the Yankees), baseball would go bankrupt in ONE year. That's simply not fair.

at 10:13 AM, Thursday July 15, 2010 EDT Yankees - always #1 in payroll
Redsox - always #2 in payroll Angels - always top 10 in payroll These 3 teams went to 7 out of 10 World Series in the past decade. They also occupied 21 of the 40 playoff spots in the same decade. 70% of ALCS championships 53% of playoff spots The occasional "also ran" mixes it in every once in awhile, but for the most part it's payroll domination. |

at 11:26 AM, Thursday July 15, 2010 EDT BIG difference between Yankee payroll and Angels' top 10 payroll...in fact there's a big difference between the Yankees #1 payroll vs. the Sox #2...only argument you have is that the Yankees are the best team in baseball in which case I can't disagree with you.

at 12:13 PM, Thursday July 15, 2010 EDT My point is that the lowest payrolls don't have the income to consistently buy talent and, for the most part, these teams are stuck in this rut forever.
No team has the ability to generate the kind of income as the Yanks/Sox/etc... and baseball is setup to reward the rich. How can you deny this?? |
