I'm about to logoff for the night, so I'll read the responses in the a.m.
Some people here think the rules are too soft toward cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people here think I'm too hard on cheaters (I catch flack from these people). Some people think the site is not moderateble (I catch flack from these people). Point is that I know I can't please everyone, so I'd like to know what the community thinks about cheating and how it should be dealt with. I know, I know, a new IP can easily be obtained. I know, I know, alt accounts can be created. However, based on the tools I have been given, what would YOU do to moderate this site if given the chance? Let's keep our responses above a 5th grade reading level if possible. And if at all possible, please post from your main account (if it hasn't been banned already). I'd like to know who is speaking without having to access my IP spreadsheet FFS. Thrax |

at 10:17 PM, Sunday March 14, 2010 EDT Difference is that there ARE actually witches (cheaters) here......unlike in Salem. Bad analogy TJ.
OH DAMN, I said I wasn't responding tonight. I'm going to bed... |

at 10:25 PM, Sunday March 14, 2010 EDT I'd try to hold a strict policy of one acc per player, perma-banning alts altogether. Once an alt is discovered, the associated main would be perma-banned too.
Also you should stick with the graded punishments for first time offenders, that's your best contribution to the site as a mod. New players who say funnel points without knowing it's a offense (ie Jily) shouldn't be permanently banned from the site. That being said, banning tools should work for anything good to happen. Mikey's post proved they dont. |

at 10:30 PM, Sunday March 14, 2010 EDT Thrax, you have a life and you have responsibilities to your life. You don't have the time or resources to mod every single little thing.
I think that you should really only focus on the things that ryan has deemed illegal. I understand the logic that if 3 good players all share an account, that the account will be able to play more games and accumulate points. This is troy code for "hey my only advantage is that i play 1000 games a month dont take that from me". I personally dont think that having a shared acct is that big of an advantage, Yeah you can play more games, but on the flip side what happens when one of the 3 gets frustrated and decides to tank it? Also if you insist on banning all shared accts, I'm pretty sure les and ONlX both have this accts info. anyway the point im trying to make is that there is really only one of you since verms is gone and none of the other mods understands the game well enough to mod it. So although valiant, it isn't feasible for you to try to mod beyond what ryan has told you to. as far as punishments go, most PGA are pretty minor infractions, so i wouldnt change your ban times for those. however i would take a 0 tolerance policy on proxying and code exploitations. |

at 10:34 PM, Sunday March 14, 2010 EDT I agree with nunes and int.
One thing about the one acc per player thing. It would be more no more than one acc per IP kinda thing. People play from work and their gf's house when she's in the shower. Players could get written approval for having more than one acc per IP if they have a brother, or wife that plays. Ofc some sort of prove would have to be given and the acc's should be RC'd permanently. Set cheaters carrier points back to 0 and erase them from the whole system. They are violating the rules of the site, what claim do they have to be remembered? I would like to point out that these steps wont 100% stop cheating but they will make it the underground minority that it should be instead of the mainstream fashion show that it is now. |

at 10:35 PM, Sunday March 14, 2010 EDT But if there is going to be more extreme moderation, there needs to be more than 1 person who actually knows how to moderate kdice.
cough-keepHHandTCSfrommoddingthissitewithoutknowingwhatthefuckisgoingon-cough excuse me. i seem to be coming down with something. anyways, when it comes to banning people make sure it is done by evidence and not just a feeling. anonymous mods would be cool too. mods that would be removed if they ever revealed their identity, would keep people from being friends/having favoritism with certain mods. as long as the ban is justified, i dont have a problem with it. |

at 10:37 PM, Sunday March 14, 2010 EDT one account per player sucks because then players with lots of points can't always play with people they enjoy playing with at lower tables if those people don't have many points.
i believe what you do now is reasonable considering you have a life outside dice. I agree with int in relying a little more on reviews- if several players (over a certain timespan) have pga accusations with a specific person, it might be a good idea to keep an eye on those players. I've had my fair share of bad reviews and accusations, but so has everyone, and I wouldn't outright ban someone from reviews, but I might watch a player based on reviews. |
