Okay, so I wanted to basically write this in hopes the right people would read it, take it serious and maybe do something about the issues.
The problem with this game is the design.. it doesnt know if its a "social networking site" or a "gaming site". For example, the so called "top" players will tell you a key to success is the chat box. Being talkative and making "friends" is a must to be top 100 in the month and that seems wrong on so many levels. Not only that, but it leads to PGAs and makes new players feel alienated by these so called "virtual friends". People stop playing this game because of the politics that go along with it and the fact it is nearly impossible to crack the top 100 unless you have a teammate. That shouldn't be the case in what is supposed to be a 1 man for themselves game. The chatbox also leads to "vflags", which have tons and tons of issues. From people abusing vflagging, to backstabbing after being left alone. Even the person who accepts or denies the vflag is in trouble many times because some people view this as a "truce/alliance". In short, the designers of this game need to figure out if they want to run a "game" site or a "social networking" site. If they choose the ladder, fine.. myself along with MANY MANY people will quit for good. Im here to play a game and win if possible, not to make "cyber friends" or "talk my way to 1st/2nd place". If I want to chat, Ill log onto MSN or AIM, join a chat room or whatever.. but the mix of both gaming and chat doesnt mix, it just creates cheating and problems. I doubt this post will change anything, but I had to say something because after giving up KDice for a while and recently coming back to see if things changed I have found its only gotten worse, and the few names I used to recognize and respect for playing the game and not playing the chatbox are now gone and been gone for months. This is a dying site, and its a shame because in principal you had such a great idea/game in mind. But the players were allowed to ruin it because not enough policing when the chat box was allowed. Get rid of the chat box, or KDice will be gone in the very near future...I guarantee. Don't believe me? Ask a mod.. or go check a website that will tell you how much traffic this site gets.. compare now to just a year ago.. or a year ago to 2 years ago... it's been a steady decline and is only getting worse. Soon the sponsors go, than the site goes.. ..Ill be disappointed if it happens, but won't be that upset because they allowed it to happen themselves without trying to fix the issue. |

it's a social gaming site. part of the game is diplomacy. if you want straight strategy, go play dicewars. |

at 10:13 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST Welcome to KDice, an online social strategy game based on Taro Ito's DiceWars.
That description says it all........social strategy. Plenty of new faces arrive in the top 100 every single month. Players come and go all the time even if there are a select 40-50 that are there every month. If you want success at the upper tables, you have to be ready to make alliances and/or politic your way into a decent reputation. You can't expect a game site with real human beings playing to be completely unsocial and just roll dice over and over again, while never utilizing the chatbox. Monte has made some good posts as to how to infiltrate the upper tables, and it does not require a PGA partner or team of players. True, you may never win a gold/silver/bronze, but top 100 can be done fairly easily if you do it the right way. This site has been here for 4 years and I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon. If you don't like the social aspect of this game, your only choice is to leave. Taking away the chatbox would ruin this game and make it VERY boring. Removing the chatbox would most certainly kill the site. |

at 10:14 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST Than this game should be discribed as such.. it is described as:
"KDice is a multiplayer strategy online game based on Dice Wars" Says nothing about socializing.. and socializing IS NOT STRATEGY!! You are just 1 of the players that I spoke of that ruined the game by using this "game" as a "chat room" to make virtual friends. Why not go outside and make real ones? |

at 10:22 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST socializing is quite important as an aspect of the game. If you spend a lot of time doing something, don't you tend to make friends in the process? also, from the help.
"You are playing against humans. Humans are passionate creatures. Keep that in mind." What makes dicewars different from kdice is that you are playing against humans, and human have communication abilities. so utilize them. learn to kiss ass to the board leader and talk your way into second. it's useful. sure, you're not here to make friends. but what kind of person are you if you play the game, utilize the chat, and don't end up being friendly with at least a couple people? |

VaSc.... describe the game that you want to play. Does it involve strategies such as trucing? Is it simply 7 humans at a table who are not allowed to truce? Once you respond, then we will have a better idea of how to respond to you. |

at 10:56 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST Basically, what I want it a game that is dictated by how you play, what moves you decide to make (on the board, not chat) and the basic strategy you use to succeed or fail.
What I see and what I am hearing is this game is made to make friends and get ahead by talking and chatting your way to victory.. so no skill, just salesmanship. Hope that helps. |

at 11:04 AM, Monday March 8, 2010 EST salesmanship IS skill
manipulation IS skill Part of the strategy has to be more than knowing which dice stack to roll on your opponent. It has to include knowing when to call for a truce, when to flag to a player, and when to counter other players chatbox actions. For you to say that those aren't skills is ridiculous. That has EVERYTHING to do with board evaluation and future attacking strategy. The social aspect makes the game dynamic. Otherwise I'm just clicking my mouse.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |
