"3 - Most religions are very contrdictory in their story telling, for instance, if the story of Noah and his ark are true, then God slayed thousands and thousands of innocent children.(p.s. anyone that tries to give a good reason for these actions in defense of this fable is full of shit......killing kids is killing kids) "

Maybe god was killing black or jewish kids. Then it would be alright I'd guess?

Thrax, although it would be ignorant of me to say they didnt in the past. The vatican does not get rich off of tithing, nor has it for mor than 200 years.

I will admit though that the Catholic church did go through a pretty corrupt period.

The Knights of Columbus just spent the 2nd most amount of money to ban gay marriage in california.

of course the Knights of Columbus are catholic. also, at two different catholic churches i've attended recently (Boise, ID) and Oakland, CA they've actually encouraged voters to help kill health care reform.

not only crazy political...but spending money politically....to violate civil rights of entire groups of people.

this is not in the 1600s. this was last election.

The knights are not funded by tithing. And of course many of the organizations connected with the Catholic church and the church itself are politically active. The Knights trying to ban gay marriage is no different then a gay union trying to keep it lawful. Law is and always has been influenced by what a population thinks is "right".

as for health care reform, the Catholic church has no official stance on it to the best of my knowledge. Any preaching for or against it is strictly (administativly speaking) at the perogative of the local head priest.

Although an argument i have heard against the reform on a religious basis is: Health care reform is basically redistribution of wealth from the wealthy to the poor. Or forced charity. If a man is forced to do charity he will begin to resent it and be less likely to do it of his own will. So basically the argument is that your creating resentment against charity and decreasing the populations desire to do acts of goodwill.

I dont claim this to be infallable logic, but i will say that it makes sense to me and i agree with it to a certain extent.

did a little research. The USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) says the following:
"In our Catholic tradition, health care is a basic human right. Access to health care should not depend on where a person works, how much a family earns, or where a person lives. Instead, every person, created in the image and likeness of God, has a right to life and to those things necessary to sustain life, including affordable, quality health care. This teaching is rooted in the biblical call to heal the sick and to serve "the least of these," our concern for human life and dignity, and the principle of the common good. Unfortunately, tens of millions of Americans do not have health insurance. According to the Catholic bishops of the United States, the current health care system is in need of fundamental reform. To learn about Catholic teaching on health care in more detail, read the full statement by the United States Catholic Bishops, A Framework for Comprehensive Health Care Reform, at usccb.org/sdwp/national/comphealth.shtml.";
pretty much, everyone is deserving of healthcare. Naturally, they also state that the healthcare reform must be abortion (and euthanasia)-free.
as for the Knights fighting certain pieces of legislation, I agree with det. They aren't funded by tithing, so they can act like any other community organisation.

Hmm actually the knights of columbus, all though an entirely Catholic organization, are entirely dissenfranchised from the hierarchy and administration of the Catholic church. This is not something i knew. anyway as such they receive no money from the church.
