at 12:48 PM, Friday March 5, 2010 EST Det (and happy to a point), you dont fully read posts do you? I think it was pretty clear that from my stated Catholic background (maybe you guys didnt realize that part of catholic elementary school includes first communion, reconciliation and confirmation) that i am aware that Baptism is one of the sacraments. (I wasnt asking for you guys to explain what these sacraments are.) And that i was also aware that other christians baptise at different ages. I was asking for more of a clarification (from catholics or other christians) on the terminology difference between Baptism and Christening. Basically how do they refer to it? Or are they straight synonyms to Catholics?
I think i found my answer here: http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=313164 |

at 12:56 PM, Friday March 5, 2010 EST I dont think there is a Baptism name involved. But I'll find out on Sunday at the information session. I do recall getting to pick a saint that i admired during confirmation preparation whose name i would adopt as my confirmation name.

at 1:03 PM, Friday March 5, 2010 EST When we moved into our house back in '04 we were unpacking boxes in the garage one night and one of our neighbors came over to welcome us. We got to talking and it turned out he and his wife had a couple young children. I, being polite, asked him what their names were. I can't remember the specifics, but the following convo ensued:
Neighbor: Yes, we have two children, a boy and a girl. Me: Oh that's nice, what are their names? Neighbor: Well, if you think of the Old Testament in the Book of "______", to the story of "______", you'll find my children's names there. Me: That doesn't help me... Neighbor: Does your wife know the answer? Wife: huh? Neighbor: (looking dejected) Jacob and Mary (or whatever names he said) Me: oh, very nice names Neighbor: (continuing to look annoyed) Well, welcome to the neighborhood, see you around Me: Thanks, good night. (neighbor walks away) Wife(to me): I think you found our new best friends Me: fuck that Fortunately they moved a couple months later. |
