Kdice has changed - for the worse

Most of the old players who used to play the top level tables have left. the player culture has changed, leaving a void which was filled by inexperienced, culture-less noobs that make kdice now unbearable. It has mostly turned into vflag-fests and mindless flame wars. this post is not about tournaments.

To the old players: why are you still here?
To the new guys: what is enjoyable at the style of game you play?

VFlagging is kinda gay, especially in early rounds however, sometimes its the only way to stay alive as Stormlord said. Ive only joined this site for about 6 months and i love it so i cant really comment on the "old style" but i guess as the rules change so does the play?

vflagging is defeatistic, ofthen way to early, and should be countered. I really don't care about anything else than the 2K tables, but i think we should camaign to clense the 2K tables for it.

one problem i see with vflagging. it was more ok when ony the top players did it. cause it did happen much less, later in the games, got fairly ofthen counterd and usually the player was good enough to read the table, so that he actuall was weaker.

i cant tell you how many flaggs i have seen from players that really are much stronger than their opponent. like in the daily 100 yesterday. a guy with 5 terrs and 3X4stackes vflagged to a guy with 5 terrs, only 3 of them where connected, and ONE 5stack. at that point i SCREAMED at him. telling him it was a horrible flag. luckily the other guy did not read the chat, and 3 turns later the vflagger had won the battle by a huge margin, while he had not been left alone to fight and been figthing.

so soluting LEARN THE READ THE TABLES. i think one should only vflag(round2) about 1/10 games or so.

LAGER i am stil here since i am a hopeless optimist

While I'm not part of the old players you refer to I have been playing some time 454 games pre March 2007. I agree there has been a shift and hate first place wiping the floor while others try to fight for a position. I agree that flagging in round 2,3 or 4 is in essence a truce and agree that others should then counter. Not that I have anything against trucing. Its got to be said that there was a lot of crappy behaviour before this current itteration and I'm sure the are hundreds of posts detailing it. Remember when players would flag Stack up then remove their flag only to sneak a win?

For me I try to play the game how I like to be treated. If I see players fighting for a position lower than mine then I try to let them. If I counter a truce and that truce is losing and flags I respect their flag like any other player on that table. I dont always see that recipricated. Thats fine. It might piss me off but hey if I dont like it I can whine (and I can whine - at times)or I can play the next game, and sometimes hold a grudge but mostly not. If it all gets too much for me then I can quit. Anyone seen Mainebear recently?

Of course, I assume you mean you don't let the truce partners that helped you counter the other truce then get killed. I certainly hope you don't let them get nothing for their effort - otherwise why would anyone truce you?

Basically, truces > flags. Don't forget that.

How has kdice changed for the worse when I started playing? That alone makes it 100x better than before.

That's the luck of the draw, if someone is in my way and flags to me; it's im my best interest to eliminate him. So why would I expect to be spared when I would just as quickly kill him?

Flagging is for the weak.

man this is hilarious, when people like lager and fin start complaining about the good old days.

Sam said it best probbaly. But let me add, kdice has ALWAYS been like this. People keep looking at the past with rose coloured glasses and it's pretty damn retarded.

there was never a time when people didn't v-flag. It was just called something different and manifested itself differently. The only difference now is that there are MORE people who know this strategy as kdice has now been around for a while. The people that enjoy a winner-take-all scenario have moved on, while most of the people that enjoyed collecting epoints remain.

Yes, the 1-2 truce has been around forever. I'm surprised and old thread hasn't been dug up (oh thats right... forum search!). Many of the changes to kdice have been derived from requests to stop 1-2 trucing (giving 1st more points, moving the flag round back).

Here's the problem: There is no fear of countering 1-2 because people tend not to counter.

How do we encourage more countering? Let's be constructive. I'm not sure how this is done. Maybe it should be a separate thread.

And as far as traffic goes, there have been dips here and there mostly when the game rules changed substantially, but since tournaments started and more enforcement of the rules it has been going up and is as high as its ever been (don't trust alexa, it only tracks people with the alexa toolbar). The inflation is from freeroll tournaments and reintroducing the +70 points per game.
