...and there is no sign that Mr. Obama is any different from the past democrats that sat in the oval office. The only exception is that he has 100% compliance within his party and a majority in congress that will pass anything Mr. Obama supports.
How hypocritical is it that Mr. Obama continues to remind the general public of the deficit he inherited, but then spends so recklessly that the possibility of having a balanced budget anytime within his term is utterly impossible. How hypocritical is it that the libs called the recent spending bill that was passed a "stimulus package". How does $20 billion dollars towards food stamps stimulate the economy? What jobs will be created by increasing food stamp allowances? This is only one example of many within that spending bill, but I'll try to avoid making this post unneccisarily long. One of you left wingers need to help me understand what our President is attempting to do. The view from the cheap seats here in right field makes the picture look exactly like I thought it would look before the election took place; the liberal democrats want a socialist republic in place of our cherished capitalistic society. Let's continue to drain the rich to pay for the poor. Let's continue to increase taxes on large corporations that have been laying off employees at an enormous pace. Let's increase benefits to the unemployed instead of finding ways to provide jobs for them. I'm ranting a bit, but one thing is clear. Barack Obama scares the living shit out of me. JP, UGB, anybody, please help me feel better about the job he's doing. And someone explain to me how the fuck he has a 67% approval rating. They must have done the polling at a foreclosure seminar or a foodbank. |

I stated my basic view and don't really have any more to add, since the premsie of my arguement is that talking about politics on the internet is a exercise in futility. |

at 7:14 PM, Thursday March 5, 2009 EST All I wanna know is:
Does anybody respect the constitution anymore? Regardless of whether you're a D or R. Both parties seem to have strode away from the document as if it's outdated or poorly designed. I wonder how much better the world would be if state/local governments actually wielded power and we didn't have a sprawling bureaucracy controlling almost everything. Keep in mind what I'm saying is coming from a libertarian point of view. I'm not anarchistic, I just think our federal government is incredibly inefficient and has succeeded in making fools of millions of Americans. I think that the major emphasis so many average Americans place on the power of the president is horribly misguided (evidence: War Dog). The truth is, people, the president can ask for legislation, but it's the 535 members of Congress who write it and pin him into signing it into law. Iunno, this is somewhat random ramblings, but I'm very concerned as to where our nation is going long-term. I couldn't care less about spending or whatever in the short term. I do have a problem with the mentality of congressmen feasting on HUGE bills to get money for their districts or whatever because they say it would be "wasted anyway." Why the hell are we electing people who want to spend that money then? We don't need stupid pet projects for our districts. We need less money spent by the federal government. Period. It's getting unsafe for the liberties of your average American. Of course, this is biased and I'm appreciative of other arguments (I've enjoyed this thread), but I would like to also point out that I have basically zero compassion for the "common man" who is being "stolen from" by the corporation heads. I'm of the persuasion that truly smart people know how to succeed and those that can't handle it don't deserve help for not being able to succeed. However, those "truly smart" people are a quaint minority in these parts compared to those who would rather get money from their government, instead. It makes no sense. Give the gov't X dollars to get X/2 back when they spend half of it on maintaining the bureaucracy. Why not keep X dollars and if that's not enough, look for solutions on your own? Oh well, I'm basically a compassionless person anyway. I enjoy being able to be the minority who sits back and watches the quibbles of the two major parties though. :) |

glad to see your not bi est, and wtf does my age have to do with politics, no need to be jealous of me being like times younger than you and better at a subject, just go find something in your court. -.- OK with that of my shoulders i would like to say something that was never answered. were is all this money going too, and who's going to pay it off? lastly (something i have not mentioned) what about border patrol. i have a pretty little nick name at school now "racist" because i support border control and the fence along the Rio Grande. then they throw at me, what if they put a border on the Canadian American border? all i answered was "ok, because my parents actually came here with filed paper works and LEGALLY , they would have had no problem otherwise" |

Fox wouldn't even mention food stamps if they use the study, they would say something like tax cuts for small business stimulates the economy by X dollars, even though something that they wouldn't report, but CNN would, was shown to be more stimulating by the study."
Then show me the other data. |

this is a bad idea because if the economy recovers you are screwed. Gold is at an all time high right now and its value will not increase much more. It will however drop about 30-40% if our economy recovers. buy Platinum or rhodium. Secondly im a very fiscally conservative person, but im willing to give obama a chance. this thread is premature in my pinion by about a year. He has been president for less then 2 months you need to give him a little more time to get something accomplished. also i agree with you thrax on the food stamps. Although it is 20 billion dollars that you can be sue about 99% of will be spent, the food industry is not at all hurting (except dairy products). that 20 billion would be much better suited in say construction or banking or fabrication or....... Also something that nobody has gone into depth on yet suprisingly is the energy policy. Lets face it from a strictly economic stand point the only viable options are king coal and nuclear. solar and wind are just too inefficient at the moment and biofuels will never go anywhere. Now the obvious problem with coal is air pollution, so if one wanted coal to remain king in the US then one would want to put considerable effort into "clean" coal. this will take much time and most likely vastly increase the cost of coal power. (reforms in both mining and the actual plants would most assuredly be very costly) This leaves us with nuclear power as the only viable option for clean and cheap energy (with current technology). Unfortunately nuclear power has this bad stigma to it. But if the general populace where more educated this wouldnt be a problem either. any way those are my thoughts, if you guys want me to elaborate more on the nuclear power let me know i am very well versed in the subject. good thread thrax ive enjoyed it |
