What should be done?

Looks like every time I think I'm finished with changes and things look stable the KDice people find another hole to exploit.
I agree that you shouldn't be able to buy first place (even though that little race paid for the server for last month). The reason it was possible was that it was a bug introduced when kdice moved to its own server and member bonuses were added. I knew about the bug but didn't think it would be used this way. As for bomb being played buy multiple people I can't think of any solution to this. I don't think there's any way to prevent this. Although the leagues idea is probably the best step. That idea is where different leagues of play are introduced that have different play parameters. For example, 16 dice, ELO scores, or a maximum number of games in a day. Its a cool idea but kdice needs probably 10x the population to make it useful. Anyway, just posting to get your thoughts on how last months top 3 should be handled. |

at 11:45 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT Tough scenario.
1. If it was legal to "buy points" all month, then Wish and DG haven't done anything wrong "legally". Buying points the last day should not be punished anymore than buying them the first day. (even though the tactic may be ethically wrong) 2. If you punish the top 2 players for buying points, then why not all players who bought points for the month? 3. So far, there is no evidence that I have seen or heard of that supports Bomb's account being played by multiple players. He seems to be very addicted to the game and spends most of his waking hours playing; no harm, no foul. 4. I have not been able to find information on the kDice web site to support the buy points scenario except for membership data. Is there a written discription somewhere of points for contributing? 5. The Real Issue! I don't think the real issue has been addressed yet. I was very demoralized on the last day (and I also spent several hours playing) by the lack of ethics being displayed by major, long term players. The inappropriate tactics to try and keep DG at the top because of a perceived multiplayer Bomb account were discouraging and simply not fun anymore. Players I had previously respected killing other flagged players while DG stayed alive without flagging (farming for DG, so to speak) was demoralizing and discouraging. Cassa, who I don't particularly care for, was raped by another hi ranking player to try to help DG who was not flagged. All others were flagged. It was just wrong! I like kdice, but sometimes the players, good players loose all perspective, compromise their integrity and spoil the spirit of the game. I don't know how you can police that. All that said... I don't like what happened either. I am disappointed in Wish and DG as well as their friends who supported this last minute rally with unethical behavior. I wish we could all play like MONA! |

at 11:52 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT To the Kdice community,
Last month was the only month that I have ever tried to be in the top3, at least since the days of ELO. I played hard for about 20 of the 30 days, all in the beginning, racking up games, playing well, doming up and raising my score. Very early in the month I logged on to give Ryan my monthly donation, and saw that it increased my score 2500 points, or the membership bonus. This was probably on the first day of the month if I remember correctly. As a result for 30 days I played roughly hard enough to stay in the top 10. I knew at the end of the month there would be the possibility that buying points would in fact rule out who won, and who lost this month. This is not an exploitation of the system. For 30 days players knew you could buy points, and that it could be done. Ryan it was posted in forums numerous times, and discussed ad nauseam. In the past you have never removed a trophy after the month is over. You may have asked players on the night before to lose points, or to step down, but you have never removed a trophy from a profile without replacing it, rightfully so. In the past, you have had proxy cheaters win the month, you have had PGA flagfest to win the month, and even points transferred from a bystander to an account without question. These all seem to surround them in a cloak of discrepancy. Never have you denied a player the trophy once it has been rewarded. RND even received all his trophies including 2 first place trophies after his ability to CHEAT was exposed. I did not cheat to win the month. I used every available resource I had to come out on top with a gold trophy. If you did not want people to be able to earn points with stars, than you should have closed the loophole as it was available for nearly 30 days, if not longer, but since no one found it, it may have gone on for an additional month. I played the game, just like every other first place player has. There are many politics that are involved in this game, and I think it would be unfair to make an example out of me, because I used every resource to win the month. It was not like I didn’t play, or that I used proxies, multiple people or PGAs to win the month. ( have never ONCE given my login to anybody.) Every month the community seems to have the same discussion over the previous month’s winner. For as long as I can remember, every month, a few people get upset, some people are extremely happy with their place, and some never mention a word and continue to play. Reorganizing the trophies after they have been awarded and the month is finished would destroy the very fabric of kdice. Even the most noted cheaters, still have their points. Again, I did not cheat this month, I have had one RC on my account since its inception, and it was not during April. What I did do was play the game like games and sports are meant to be played. I used resources, my voice, and my time to organize a staged effort to win the month. Perhaps now that you have seen what can come from a player’s ability to exercise his mind, to fully understand the whole system and use it for all its benefits, may you change it. Removing trophies would only weaken the argument, and show that a few voices, which happen at the end of every month, will have won. I hope that everyone recognizes that just like any competition, many factors actually contribute to outcome, and I hope that you might see, that I competed well, and in the end used every available resource to win the month. I’m sorry in my humblest opinion, I did not cheat (basing this on all the FAQ, forums discussions, strategies, ideas, player notes to date). i typed this in word pardon the " ' " quotations, i do not feel like retyping them all out. at 11:52 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT I hard at work refusing to question your integrity, Ryan, about whether you knew people would try to buy first or not.
Personally, I saw it coming the minute I knew it was possible. But that's just me. For a solution I suggest this: Leave it as is. DG and Wish literally paid for the respect they now have (take that how you will) and everyone in the community who cares knows who the "Real" winner is (keeping in mind that there are probably 5-10 different "Real" Winners if you ask any 100 people here). Just take the simple route and leave it. We'll get over it. Fix the problem if your moral compass doesn't allow you to retire in Tahiti with a clear conscience. Or not. People will play this game because it's fun. Period. I say, make some money man. You've earned it. But again. That's just me. You'll have my $5 this month regardless of points or stars or whatever. Good game! ~Silverfox, the one and only |

at 11:59 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT I say leave the results as is. Take away the bug.
If people are playing as a team, folks will notice (like everyone did with Bomb) and then they will beat dealt with, or lots will approve of it (As with Bomb). It's just like PGAing, not a big deal, easy to spot, dealt with when needed. |

at 12:21 PM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT Isn't it just a natural progression of the game for there to be one account played by multiple people. If I'm not mistaken "Montecarlo" has been played by at least three other people.
It's the ultimate form of PGA. 3x the people, 3x the games, 3x the points. |

back to topic: i vote to leave everything the way it is too. however, if you want to change things, the order of logic progresses like so (in my demented mind): a) buying points is penalized. refund all the $$$ spent in the final half hour of the month. bomb gets 1st, dg 2nd, jer 3rd. b) buying points and seeming team play are penalized. refund the $$$ spent in the final hour of the month. dg gets 1st, jer 2nd, sam 3rd. c) reward the most honorable person in the game. Vermont gets 1st. petomni gets last. all time. |

at 12:48 PM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT Ryan, as the administrator, owner, game designer and so on, I think it's unfair to assume that Bomb's account was played by multiple people just because the community screams it high on roof tops.
Bomb did get first and deserved first under the current system. There is no reason whatsoever that he should be considered anything less than last month's winner. Hate on him all you want for playing so many games, but the accusations are wrong. |

at 12:53 PM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT as far as bomb goes, there is NO rule that says teamplay is illegal. if you want to reference past experience, then the only penalizable teamplay is when one of your teammates is rnd. this was not the case with bomb.
imo, anyone who thinks bomb doesnt deserve a good finish is an idiot. he figured out the system. regrettably, he left kdice with half an hour left in the month, forgetting the $$$-for-points possibility. im sure, if he hadnt left, he wouldve chipped in $50 to stay on top. i mean, its not like hes had any free time this month to spend any of the money he makes as a parking lot attendant. poor bomb, left half an hour too early. |
