dear Ryan: unanswered grievances

this post is meant to be a listing of all the shit we are pissed at ryan about. he used to be a very active developer of the game, but recently he has become mostly mute, except for the rare occasions in which he erratically swoops in to ruin the day.
for what its worth, this is actually a serious post. feel free to add to the list of grievances in reply. we'll see if ryan ever replies. 1) Did you or did you not give Pat Whalen points at the end of March so that he could win the monthly competition? 2) Can you please give us the reasoning behind appointing fiero as the sole moderator, when most of the community did not support this idea? 3) Why did you change xsketch's point system on day 28.5 out of 30? (Why did you change the point rewards in kdice a few months ago in mid month?) 4) Why do you make major changes to the structure/rewardings of the game without giving anyone any forewarning? |

You need to come up with a list of which body parts can be bare, and bear in mind that in 2 cups one girl, both girls are fully clothed...and I'm pretty certain, I'd not want to see that as an avatar.... |

at 10:09 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT lets try to remain on topic here folks.
1) thanks for replying, fiero. im not saying you are a totally biased political devil. im also not saying you are an honest unbiased angel. im just asking Ryan why he made the decision to make you a mod when there seemed to be a lot of people with question marks over their heads about you (due to your kdice history of identity theft). to me, Vermont (or someone similar) seems like a much better choice. 2) one of the reasons i created this thread was to test the waters and try to fathom if all of the grievances i had against Ryan were solely my grievances (in which case, i would fuck off), or if they are grievances the community shares. Ryan believes i am the only one that is upset at any of these grievances, as evidenced by his reply to me in chat, "Ryan: i dont owe you shit monte." honestly i care more about if Ryan owes the community shit and less about if he personally owes me shit. yesterday MikeyPoo was talking to me claiming that Ryan does owe me shit, because i brought new people to the site, i am a well respected member (100+ fans), and what not. other people have other claims as to why they should be respected: theyve contributed a lot of donations. whatever. lets get one thing straight: Ryan doesnt owe any one individual shit. what i want to understand is if a significant fraction of the community is upset at some of the changes that Ryan has made. if a significant portion is upset, and Ryans reply is still, "i dont owe you shit," then, well... uhmmm... well you see, im an optimist, and i refuse to believe that Ryan would reply that way to a whole group of concerned players. really the main grievance i have against what has happened on the site since it existed is: **** the best method for winning is exploiting the known loophole. 1) we can whine and bitch about how wish/dg bought their medals. 2) we can whine and bitch about how bomb admitted creating a team of parking lot attendants who played endlessly. 3) we can whine and bitch about how Ryan gave points to pat to beat chris, whom more of the community obviously wanted to see win. 4) we can whine and bitch about how Linch won january because Ryan took 220k points from leek and threatened to take points from monte unless he tanked to 2nd. 5) we can whine and bitch about how other members of the community helped pet win over sam, or helped rnd win over vohaul/zosod. 6) we can whine and bitch about how integral was flagfested a gold trophy. 7) we can whine and bitch about how wayne rooney and riser proxied their way to a gold trophy or top ten all time. 8) we can whine and bitch about how the cabal and excabal both got higher placements as groups than they would have as mere individuals (except for das, as he was the bitch). 9) we can whine and bitch about the belgians, the germans, the americans, for their natural tendency to help each other. ok, so we should really whine and bitch not about Ryan.... but about all of these cheaters who have exploited the various loopholes. BUT WAIT. the problem is that Ryan KNEW of these loopholes. the grievance is that he knew of them before they were exploited (i was there several of the times that members of the community concernedly showed him the loopholes), and he didnt act on them. he waited until it was too late, and someone had stolen a trophy or three because they realized that Ryan would not act to close the loophole before it was exploited. lets go back through the list, in reverse order: 9) there was actual discussion about the nationalistic pgas. people proposed randomly selected players for each game, etc..., but in the end, nationalistic pgas never won trophies, just individual games. it blew over, especially when Ryan eliminated the national flags in one of the updates. 8) Ryans fix for this was to get rid of elo, and eventually replace it with the gpokr points system, which honestly has helped kill cabal-like cheating because everyone is too greedy for points to sacrifice them to someone else. 7) the RC detector would catch simplistic proxy help. 6) see answer to 8). major flagfests wont happen again since people are too greedy for points. the only flagfesting that happens any more is end-of-month to see your candidate beat someone elses candidate for 1st. 5) the only time Ryan has done anything about the community affecting who gets 1st is when he slapped the community in the face when they voted for chris, and he gave it to pat instead. sure, this creates more disinterest in the community... why should i sacrifice a small measure of points to help my candidate when Ryan will just come in and choose whomever he wants in the end? 4) another instance of Ryan choosing whom he wants. he even went so far as stating in his blog (link on sidebar) that he was happy with how this month ended. oh really? maybe thats because you forced it to end that way. 3) see 5). 2) Ryan was told about the potential for a community account to destroy all individual accounts way back in january. 1) Ryan knew about the buying of poits at the beginning of the month when it was discussed in the forum ad infinitum when das and wish jumped out to huge leads with 0 games played. people even predicted that this was how the month would end, with someone buying the trophies. loophole known, loophole left alone. so from this case study we see one of three things happen when a loophole is discovered: 1) the original plan, which was community discussion, Ryan respect the ideas, then implement them, and the loophole is closed. 2) the erratic plan, which is Ryan not asking the community for advice, and implementing his own erratic solutions (such as naming pat a winner), and the loophole is closed awkwardly. 3) the current trend, which is ignorance, and Ryan just leaves the loophole open (team accounts and buying trophies). so my concern isnt the "cheaters" in the game, who are wise enough to use the loophole. my concern is the "enabler" in the game, who sits idle and allows it to happen, then gets pissy when people ask him whats going on. once again, i just want to know what the community thinks about this. this is not a Ryan/monte pissing match. this is a community game. |

at 10:57 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT monte, I wholeheartedly agree with your latest post.
I don't blame wish, DG, or the Bomb team for what they did. Unless I'm mistaken the account creation doesn't have any rule against sharing an account. And Ryan definitely knew allowing the purchasing of points could lead to this kind of ending to the month. As I see it the only way to stop multiple people playing 1 account is restricting total games played. It would be nice to have a message at the top of the screen or something saying: Dom calculation has been changed. Something that simple would hedge a lot of frustration. Also, I'm very disappointed you didn't buy 1st place this month ;-) |

at 10:59 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT I don´t see any prove that bomb was a team, in fact with the post by Mudshovel and bombs coworker I think he played mostly by himself. Funny how some ppl can´t acknowledge that he earned his points.
