Look at me, I am rnd.

I have played this game for over 1 year; practically its entire life. I have made an enormous amount of friends here, had some of the most interesting and tantalizing conversations of the year were right here, on kdice.com. I enjoyed the game -- but mostly because of the great friendships, and spunky personalities that it seemed to foster.

On many occasions I have likened the upper eschelon of kdice to professional wrestling. Many of the characters and people are 'larger than life' and many play roles that they have either created, or were created for them -- sortof an impromptu form of creative entertainment for those inclined. Ever since I met and began talking to Ryan, deep down I felt as if he were playing a role too, akin to Vince McMahon, who for many years played the role of "evil president." Sadly, more recently Ryan's act seems to have gone to his head -- gone are the days of playing the game, and enjoying the people.

Some background. For many months now, myself, as well as a few other vocal players have requested repeatedly to have rules and guidelines posted. We were interested in team games, censorship, and the definition of PGA -- all these requests were completely ignored. Recently, Ryan posted once to the forum, declaring "PGA" to be unfair and "therefore cheating", however subsequent requests for clarification, as well as an immmense crying out from the kdice community were not only ignored, but completely erased from the site with no explanation.

This is a recurring trend in Ryans actions lately: CENSURE with no EXPLANATION; and while some have come to his defense, after all, it is "his game" -- he would have nothing without his players, and his draconian and totalitarian treatment of them in recent months is not only unfounded, but dispicable. KDICE IS NOTHING WITHOUT ITS PLAYERS.

In the last week, Ryan has banned, muted, or benched, numerous players without cause. He has given no explanation, and quite honestly I don't think he has one. He has repeatedly singled out certain players based on accusations that are ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE in the current time, and has ignored a much, much larger group of people who do infact do exactly what he has deemed cheating -- and they do it blatantly, in the open, and WITHOUT FEAR OF REPRISAL.

I have asked him why -- but expect no response beyond unwarranted CENSORSHIP and deletion of this thread, as he has so FRIVILOUSLY AND REPEATEDLY done in the past. Ultimately, I believe the problem is that Ryan chooses to attempt to control the kdice population, something he really has no business doing -- and certainly has no business doing based on his half assed one sided enforcement of rules he refuses to make public.

Rash unfounded actions which are abhorred by a majority of the community is no way to create a peaceful and friendly environment in which to play. I have many friends, and many "enemies" in this game; but one thing that is constant among them all is their objection to the UNFREE and UNJUST actions which seem to randomly plague the game's creator.

The only question left is: When will it happen to you?

postscript: ryan, i actually like you (and you know that).. sorry you refused to listen to reason for six months.

To be fair Ryan, I have heard many other players complain about the issues that RND is focused on. Most of them are too afraid to say anything in a main account or are afraid to lose access to your very addictive game.

Ryan, the lack of communication that you have with your customers, especially those who have chosen to contribute monetarily, does not bode well. I really think you might need help moderating the site—I think this would relieve some of the stress that wrangling the children of kdice gives you and would free your time for focus on more important things. Building a cool game site AND managing a large community are two different skill sets, one set at which you are extremely talented, and the other you still seem to be figuring out as you go along.

As certain as the sun will rise, people are going to antagonize you, call you names, complain about the things you do for their own benefit, etc. I'm sure you know the full list by now. But you can't let that anger cause you to compromise the integrity of the game. And with certain silent bannings, and a mid-month unannounced scoring change it was kind of disappointing to those of us who participate here on a regular basis.

That said, I continue to enjoy kdice and I hope all parties involved settle their differences, because at the end of the day this is just a fucking game and we should be here for a diversion from the real griefs in life, not to create additional petty ones.

I've been playing Kdice for awhile now and feel that I have to disagree with a lot of what RND has to say. Since Kdice started, I've had to watch these incessant posts from various players about what sucks about kdice, who's "retiring" (only to come back a couple of weeks/months later) and how bad Ryan is at running this site. Yet the same people who complain are here, they are still playing and they continue complaining. Old version, new version--it doesn't matter. The complaints never truly seem to change.

I love this game, to include all of the changes that go with it. I come to this site, I play, I enjoy the game (and these discussions). Then life goes on.

I have donated and I have put forth/voted on ideas all with the understanding that Ryan has the final say, never with a promise that my vote or ideas will become law. End of story. On the donation page, it never says that a donation will get you tables, input, ownership, bff's or any other perks. When you sign up for an account, it seems to lack the same. The only promise you are made when you sign up for kdice is that you get to play, provided you follow some of probably the simplest rules I have ever seen for a game, FREE OF CHARGE! This would also lead me to believe that the rules, gameplay, etc... are subject to change, and possibly without notice or agreement.

At no time have I ever been led to assume that this game is a democracy. Ryan ALLOWS us the opportunity to discuss just about any topic--even to bash him, his game and his ideas, (on his own site, mind you) with almost no repercussions. If this were my game, with all of the whining/bitching/moaning, I probably would have deleted it by now, due to the mass ungratefulness of some of the "elite" players.

To sum everything up, we're not stockholders in a Kdice corporation with the right to have any real say in what goes on. We are playing a game (that is still fairly new) in Ryan's world.
The good Ryan giveth and the good Ryan can taketh away!

Me, I am pleased with the game play; I enjoyed the old version and the new one, and as long as it stays free, I will continue to enjoy it. The few times a week I come on, win or lose, new rules or old rules, I have fun. However, if tomorrow my account were to be gone, I guarantee that I would still get a good night's rest. Enjoy THE GAME and realize that that is just what it is, a game.

My two cents.

jjedeuce:

sure, you make valid points, but i'm not sure where you are disagreeing with me. never do i state we are entited to a democracy, nor do i say we have any sort of ownership in this site. my point is simply that the players have requested clear communication and rules, and gotten no response. further, that this site would be a big pile of trash without the players, and continually pissing them off is no way to grow. this is not ryan's little ant farm on a desk, we are people.

We are playing a game (that is still fairly new) in Ryan's world. The good Ryan giveth and the good Ryan can taketh away!

Indeed, but what you fail to understand is that this site is nothing without its users, and paying and non-paying members have every right to voice their opinion about the changes and procedures that happen on this site without fear of random bannings.

Granted, some idiots here wouldn't know what tact was if it popped out of there corn flakes and punched them in the face, and it's too bad that Ryan has to deal with so many irrational voices, but these are the trials of running an internet community.

So no, I won't grab my ankles and accept things that bother me. I'd like to think there are other options than leaving, or cancelling my membership, like an open discourse among players and site owner. I can't blame ryan for being fed up with the sheer volume of stupid, but I can't say that he responded in the best way. Better than I probably would have had, though...
