this is in response to olk's reply in ryan's thread about pga = cheating. i didnt want to sidetrack that thread, but i did want to reply to olk's comment:
"The most part of the top players are friendly with a lots of other top players and find them randomly at tables. They have tendency to attack the new coming they don't know. For me it is as a PGA..." --olk i totally agree with you on this point. this is the way it has always been. back in january when i first made an appearance on the top tables (2000s i think), everyone knew that the elitist bastards who were 2000 regulars would pwn your ass immediately and shoot you back down to the 1800 tables. in light of this, i decided to be nice when i first made it up there. i took my 5th like a man, and went back to 1800. i had a decent shot at 3rd, maybe 2nd, but then they all realized that i was a 2000 noob and they wanted to reward each other. i understood. and didnt bitch about it. and told them it was cool. and their reaction: they raised their collective eyebrow, and said they would remember my charm. so the next time i played 2000, the same thing happened all over again. the third time, the castle burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. BUT THE FOURTH TIME, i had enough positive memory on the 2000 tables that they let me keep the 2nd place that i earned. and they let me stay in their circle. psychologically, this all makes sense. if you play with the same group of people for hundreds of games, and you respect the way they play and their personality, then you will tend to help them when given the choice of help them or help someone you dont know. so i decided that i needed these 2000 people to get to know me, you know, cus i think im a pretty nice guy. and after 4 games of getting pwnd by them, they decided i was a nice guy, and i had a good personality. now, if you want to make it EXTREMELY hard to stay at the high tables, the ABSOLUTE worst thing you can do is bitch at them when they gang up and hand you a 5th instead of your deserved 2nd/3rd. the other TERRIBLE thing you can do is, while bitching, call them all PGAs. especially in this day and era, where pgas are officially cheaters. based on my experience, on all tables of all levels, whenever i call someone a cheater, they will ALWAYS attack me for several games in a row after that. so, a quick overview. to stay on the high tables: 1) be humble, take your undeserved 5th place like a man, and make a joke about it (people love humor in kdice). 2) never accuse the upper tables of pga as soon as you are sent to a lower table. honestly, i think this is good advice. even from an american! |

at 8:55 AM, Tuesday February 9, 2010 EST but man, i seem to remember back when the 1800 to 2000 table jump was a HUGE thing. hell, the 1500 to 1600 was HUGE and the 1600 to 1800 was HUGE. every level had its own community.
nowadays, theres just one small community trying to work its way up to the 5k tables. and maybe another small community that works its way up to the 2k tables by the end of the month. it feels to me (i know feelings can be way off) that the kdice population has shrunk considerably. or maybe i just feel that way because of these monthly resets. i dunno. |

at 9:32 AM, Tuesday February 9, 2010 EST This is the hardest part about moderating the upper tables. I know there are plenty of blatant PGA's late at night after I'm long asleep in my bed, but the OTF always has and always will be rampant on 2k's and 5k's. It's not exactly cheating, but it's hard for new players to understand this concept.
Human nature takes over in a game where trucing a partner is part of the game-play. People will have a tendency to truce the player whose playing style they are familiar with over the player that they've never seen. They know they can count on that OTF to see a "nice" move or strategic attack to open a road for a big stack. If they move away from a new player, they may not receive the kind of kickback they know they'll get from an OTF. Bottom line is that it's a social game and reputations/relationships are a part of that. Shad is the most dominating point gainer we ever had due to his overwhelming reputation to be trustworthy.......sit for 2nd/3rd.......etc. Everyone knew that about him, even noobs. I've seen monte gain more 1 land 2nds and 3rds than anyone else on the site. (and I've seen Ryan dock him for it too ; ) ) It's not PGA.....it's good manipulation and strategy. |

at 10:04 AM, Tuesday February 9, 2010 EST my point is that if you dont jump to "OMG PGA" conclusions and as long as you have a good head on your shoulders, like chase was saying, you break into the OTF within 5 games.
5 games. thats it. so in my opinion people shouldnt be using so much energy complaining about OTF PGA bullshit and making walloftext posts or claiming PGE4LYFE when they could use that time to play less than 5 games and be over the hump. youre an idiot if you think that OTF is some club that takes months and months of kissing ass to get into. it doesnt. it takes less than 5 games of being vocal and playing well and taking a placement or two less than you deserved. |

at 10:06 AM, Tuesday February 9, 2010 EST and after those 5 games (OMG FIVE WHOLE GAMES), the next ten thousand that you play at the top tables are fair*.
*excluding when you sit with zoid, because he wins an unfair number of even rolls. |
