Dottir takes 2011 yearly TAZD.
Posted By: skrumgaer at 6:09 PM, Wednesday January 4, 2012 EST
To qualify for the yearly TAZD competition, you must have played an average of 60 regular games per month, or to finish, 720 games.
The zero datum used was
07.2, 07.9, 10.2, 14.0, 17.5, 20.3, 22.9.
I have child-proofed the yearly TAZD, but I will not say in what way I have done it. The childproofing did not have to kick in in 2011.
***Special note: Actually the childproofing did kick in for Xar in the November standings, not because of any action of his, but by my compiling his January 2011 seventh place percentage as 14 instead of 14%. That happens if you don't include the final % sign when you capture the data with the mouse. Note that his final percentages added to 129%. Xar's corrected November standings should have been

at 8:31 AM, Wednesday November 16, 2011 EST Also, I've made runs into the top 100 and even close to the top 20.
To compete for a top 25 spot generally you're going to need friends. Which, while not outright PGA, does result in implied collusion where favors from one game to another are exchanged if you wish to remain competitive at the top tables. To make a top 10 spot I would imagine requires multis, pga's and/or an enormous devotion to the diplomatic nature of the game that I could care less about. You're facing a lot of the same people over and over, and the use of friendships or strong acquaintanceships comes into play. When I compete at the 500 and below tables, I have no friends, it's me vs 6 other people with no favors being granted. I can't rely on two skilled buddies to help me achieve a top 3 finish, I have to accomplish it myself. That requires reading the board, recognizing which opponents are intelligent enough to grasp my maneuvers and knowing who will attack where so I can manipulate situations in my favor. Also, lying about a v-flag and backstabbing is always a part of my strategy. |

at 8:33 AM, Wednesday November 16, 2011 EST Monte, if you think I have friends, you are sorely mistaken. In the past, sure, I had plenty.
But for the past year, no way. I'm too ruthless in the way I play. My friends were generally more skilled players, and my goal is to eliminate those threats if they happen to be at my table. |

at 11:39 PM, Thursday November 17, 2011 EST While the calculation likely has its merits it simply doesn’t align with the point system.
Several factors eschew the reliability of this measurement, and most saliently the people’s whose stats are being utilized do not play according to the TAZD. It’s interesting to see and thanks skrumgaer for taking the time to compile/calculate. Mainly I aim to debunk it as the evaluation of skill for the ego-laden. Ahem. Naturally the person who rises to the top caters to the algorithm. Grandgnu seems to align with this TAZD calculation that pools data from place-finishes exclusively, while points rely upon a domination statistic as well and involve higher stakes at 2k/5k tables. His style deduces a set of rules that grant him a competitive advantage: 1) place trumps domination (N.B., ‘winning’ below references place finishes) 2) avoid stiff competition and more competent players “In the end, whether it's kdice or poker, my goal is to win as much as possible, and that's best achieved in both cases by avoiding the toughest competition.” (grandgnu wrote at 7:00 AM, Thursday November 10, 2011 CST) 3) 500 tables = “PWN n00bs”. If you survey the competition, it can be breezy. “lol gnu, its been long understood and accepted that the best way to succeed in TAZD is to avoid the top tables because thats where the competition is fiercest. the TAZD champ of all time, fiero600, reigned supreme in TAZD because he did just that: avoided the big boys and destroyed the 500 tables, as any halfbrained kdicer can do (see: yourself).” (montecarlo wrote at 4:37 PM, Friday August 26, 2011 CDT) 4) space-out individual games (last 10 games not certain about past, regardless some points still apply) which has several benefits: a) ability to opt onto a table with weaker competition b) enables backstabbing against verbal flags, as he has no immediate history for players to reference and ultimately corroborate against him c) avoid enemies, targeting, and any suspicion of to-be friendly opponents On the last point it would also limit his capacity to form alliances; however, it is hard to deny his accusations and generalizations of PGA’s as hyperbolic and paranoid, and how that conveniently buffers the ‘grandiosity’ grounded in trouncing the inept. It’s a turtle-shell ideology. A paper tiger of skill. You live for TAZD while the so called ‘competition’ plays another game. Perhaps if there weren’t such rampant ego-masturbation and forum trolling that seeks to weed out any valid criticisms of the TAZD I’d say congrats and leave it at that; however, exaggerated feeling and a neatly-trimmed evaluation of greatness highlight a lack of empathy to matter-of-fact points. Accompany that with attention-whoring, and you find narcissism. I poop on your erroneous claims of being the best. |

at 8:12 AM, Friday November 18, 2011 EST Right, so because I choose to fight solo, and all the "top" (LOL) players form pre-game alliances or use multi-accounting to acheive "greatness", I declare myself the victor.
Enjoy your shallow victories though. Let me know when you can win a match without two other players backing you, kthanxbye |

" The idea is that this is a different measure of skill than the one already in place (ie the points system). It's pretty easy to argue that any measure of skill will be flawed- the tazd just measures a different skillset than points do. |
