at 2:54 AM, Thursday December 31, 2009 EST Here is a little poem I wrote:
“Our obligation is to give meaning to life and in doing so to overcome the passive, indifferent life” Many-a-time, life feels like a bitter path that seems to only inhabit strife When all the dreams and desires seem crushed and desecrated Causing your physical and mental state to slowly be deteriorated The light at the end of the tunnel seems like it will never reveal Making the prospect of happiness in life seem surreal Yet the reality is that it is all a matter of perception These feelings you gets only comes through misconception Happiness is not in our circumstances, but part of our inner ego Keep your face to the sunshine and you won’t see the shadow Life is too short to waste being dejected Carpe Diem and you will find things quite unexpected Dennis Urstein was just a normal kid trying to belong Until one day something went horribly wrong Sent away to Auschwitz as a prisoner of war Stripped of parents, friends, everything he ever cared for Forced to do such unspeakable things, the pain turning his heart into an abyss Even the thought of Dante’s Inferno sounded like bliss After the war he didn’t allow his memories to keep him hostile He made it his life job bringing war criminals to trial Though testifying would bring back horrible recollections He didn’t allow the bad thoughts to send him to the wrong directions And though at times the people weren’t convicted His perseverance kept him from being restricted I have encountered many dilemmas throughout my years Whether physical or mental it had commonly brought me to tears Life is so hard, why do I even hope And then I remember Dennis Urstein and how with what he had to cope But even at the end he still progressed And it gives me faith to strive for my best! |
